Neil & Ida Down - Answered a Question by Connolly (22 Oct 08 19:43)

Hello, Mrs. Connolly, I have not found a complete answer to this but I have a partial one. The Elizabeth House Hotel, 42 / 44 The Avenue, Southampton, telephone No. 02380 224327 is reasonably close to the Docks, they have a twin bedroom with full access and fittings and a wet room for showers etc. and a price of £75 per room to include breakfast for 2. I do not know of a hoist in any hotel around here but will make further enquiries if you would like that…but… I am told that the usual way that hoists are obtained is by renting one from Shopmobility, 02380 631265, or the British Red Cross, 01962 865174. I hope you and maybe others will find this useful but I am sorry I cannot yet come up with the full answer. ….. Neil .

Thank you Neil for your help. I never thought of contacting the Red Cross etc. to rent a hoist, it would seem to be a really good answer to our problem and also the information about the hotel. I knew you would come up with a solution. I love this website, we have been on several cruises but have learnt so much more since finding this particular forum and I am afraid I am becoming obsessed by it. Happy cruising everyone.......... Bernadette.

Did you know that 10 Years ago around 60,000 British Holidays makers took a Nile cruise compared to approximately 4000 in 2016. That is a staggering decline in anyones books and despite the troubles in Egypt a decline that no-one could have possibly anticipated. No one can deny that Egypt has had its troubles with the Egyptian revolution in 2011 leading to a coup and the leadership changing hands twice before the 2014 Leader General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi took power. There have been a number o...

Thomson Cruises have made some changes in recent years and things are really working for them, in the last 5 years they have seen an increase in passenger numbers of 40%, with 20% being in the last year alone. They have always been looked down upon by a lot of customers, although unjustly so as their reviews have always been good. But with older ships and less of the pomp and ceremony of other lines they have been viewed as being at the lower end of the market. In 2016, they made a major ...
