Can’t comment about Artemis as I don’t use P & O but… Up, and for that matter down, the Amazon is a wonderful and different experience and well worth doing. Make the most of Manaus it is so unusual but so interesting and a town with an Opera House 1000 miles up river has to be something special despite the heat. Be careful of the sun especially on cloudy days because you can fry so easily without realising the effect. I was amazed at the size and the impact of the sawn trees that occasionally hit us whilst cruising up and down the river, the fact that so little of the bank can be approached by road and the amount of settlements there are along the banks. In the towns we visited you will notice that every house has its resident vulture or two on the roof and many have pet parrots inside. The beer tasted good and was not expensive. Fishing for piranhas was a super experience and recommended but I would warn you not to try the water-skiing off the back of the ship! .... Neil.

Rum Runner - Answered a Question by Potts (13 Oct 08 21:49)

Artemis is a bit dated but functional. Cruised on her to Norway earlier this year and it seems to attract pensioners mostly. The entertainment is energetic and colourful but a bit dated. Buffet diner is cramped however main restuarant is fine and food is generally ok but there is a lot of vibration from the machinery spaces below if you are allocated a table on the Port side. The Horizon disco almost shuts at 11 pm and might as well since most people go to bed early. On the plus side, service is quick and cabins are a reasonable size. Everything has become a revenue centre with art auctions and basic artycrafty stuff and be wary of buying the cruise DVD. I have never seen such an amatuerish attempt at putting a cruise DVD together. Other than that Artemis is basically on a par with most mass market cruise ships. Hope you enjoy your holiday.

I've been on Artemis twice and have two more cruises booked on her. Yes she is a little old but still very comfortable and not so large that you never meet the same people twice. Everyone was very friendly, the food is good and the entertainment, considering her size is enjoyable. It's all geered for the British sense of humour. We found the staff very helpful and efficient. We much preferred the service and food in the main dining room though the buffet was fine for a quick meal before or after a trip. I hope that you have a wonderful time.

BRITAIN AND SUNSHINE.

By Freddie Moser

It Is an going problem, hygiene on board! And something I hate people not washing hands, on a ship this can cause huge problems, having recently come back from a Celebrity Cruise, I loved the fact they have staff working to make sure you do the basic things! In this day and age it is a sad problem for basic hygiene! It is not something you like to talk about, but were a bunch of germ-laden conveyors of infectious diseases. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know the s those people you see tr...

Norwegian Cruise Line to Add ...

By Sam Smith

Sam Smith's blog

I find it hard to believe that given the amount of family friendly cruise options around these days, all of which include swimming pools, some even large scale on board water parks that it’s not compulsory for cruise companies to employ lifeguards, especially when you consider some of the recent tragedies that have occurred.Norwegian Cruise Line have announced that it will be joining Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Lines in employing certified lifeguards at all of the family pools acr...
