LOL Agree. You should always allow gratuities onto your budget for your cruise. Normal withdraw from "compulsory" though always tip more than. Only thing is if you don't pay compulsory some crew will not get it. Next cruise we will pay half compulsory and the rest to whom we think deserves it.

If they are as you say "compulsory" then either don't go or pay. You have no other option. If you are saying you don't want to pay any gratuities then first give us a reason why you don't want to pay and be prepared to stand your corner against very stern opposition. Most people pay something. .... Neil.

If by compulsory you mean those cruise ships that automatically add-on gratuities to your on-board account, a visit to the Guest Relations desk once on board & tell them to remove it. It's as simple as that. But you will see if you do as others have suggested & go into previous answers, that gratuities are an important way of life to the recipients. You will see many arguments about how the cruise ships should pay a decent wage without the need to tip, but currently, it is the only way for the crew to make a decent wage. I believe it is also a lovely part of the tradition of cruising, a still unique holiday experience.

Hi Wilba. And NCL too I think and soon it could be a compulsory service charge by them all which would be ridiculous as they might just as well increase the fare to cover. Oh what fun we are having, not. (I've always wanted to say that ). ... Neil.
