The Canaries is usually warm in December /January and it's not too far to travel for one week as long as you fly out. Don't be tempted to sail to the Canaries at that time of the year as it takes a couple of days usually to get there and the weather is usually pants. Sometimes the Bay of Biscay can be awful and by the time that you get there you don't have a great dal of time to enjoy the sun before you have to return home.Given a choice I would plump for the Caribbean too but we found that seven days is really too short to fly there and back and have a really relaxing time in between. Still if you have to settle for a week then there are some good offers on as Wilba says.

Caribbean is the nearest warmest in Jan. Plenty of cruises to choose from.

I can recommend Thomson's Red Sea cruise, the weather is good, the cost is very reasonable particularly if you book late, flights are available from a wide range of UK airports, the tours are memorable (Petra should not be missed). The food, service and entertainment are very good considering the cost of the cruise.

Carnival`s decision to introduce a new rule of traditional diners on their ships made me think of the whole subject of when, where and with whom do you choose to dine on your cruise. On board Carnival Glory and Carnival Conquest passengers who opt for first or second sitting traditional dining will be turned away from the restaurant if they are more than 30 minutes late for their selected seating. So that means be there on time , and probably queue to get on, or go to the buffet.Dining time s...

Baby number 3 is on it’s way!!Baby is due around mid January (although we’re sure he or she will be late and will come on Rafe’s birthday on 20th January).Being 35 means I’m classed as ‘higher risk’ due to my age (I’m not THAT old, am I??) bu...

It is amazing how many guest I have spoken to over the last few weeks that have booked excursions through the cruise liner, which I may add are quite expensive. Cruise liners make a lot of money selling excursions at a hefty premium, but many people are happy to pay the extra because booking with the ship is the easy option and they have the comfort of knowing the captain will not leave port until everyone on his ships tours is back on board. I totally understand the reasons behind this but b...
