I notice that you have not named the cruise line or what you /they have done about it should make interesting reading.
It has actually happened on 3 different cruise lines. The only connection between the 3 is the check-in staff at Southampton. They are the ones who swipe your card before you board. I did not want to name the cruise lines yet as I donot have actual proof it was them. That is why I wanted to see if it had happened to others.
I will name names if I can trace it back to the check-in staff.
Interesting. I also used a credit card on check-in at Southampton earlier this year. I then used the card extensively abroad during the cruise. On return I was alerted, by the credit card company, to three fraudulent transactions on the card, each one made in the UK. Something aroused their suspicion and I suffered no loss. I did wonder as to the source of the fraud though, as the only transaction I had made in the UK with this particular card was, as stated, on check-in at Southampton.
Had a simlar problem last year.This spring I phoned the credit card company before going on the cruise to let them know to ok our for any out of the ordinary purchase and that I would telephone them if I made any purchases, other than the cruise line final statement.
Thankfully the Halifax fraud prevention checks seem to work very well.
I agree totally with the views of Mr/ Mrs/Ms Middleton on the need for due diligence.
You have a devil of a task in getting any cruise line to admit that they have a problem with the security of passenger details i suspect that will look into your claim but deny any liability. it is a warning to us all to be vigilant with are cards no-matter where we use them.
Another avenue of investigation could be through the card company ask them if there is a history of cloning through Southampton cruise terminals they may tell you where the cruise line will not.
I have heard that Barcelona Airport is one of the top places for card cloning but must admit this is only hearsay. .... Neil.
Just a thought have any of these incidents been reported to the police, if so duty rosters etc would be available to them with view to establishing staff rotas to see if any pattern emerges re staff at check in.As cloning is currently a world wide problem and police forces do regulary liase with credit companies it may be worthwhile as a safeguard to yourselfs and may benefit future passengers embarking at Southampton.

In these days of pin numbers my question is how were purchases made either in person or products bought on line. If in person a pin would definitely have been needed. If on line then most companies have a secure pin number different to that of the card's usual pin number. So again my question is how did these purchases get verified?
