I am having the same problem,I can fly out with 25kgs (KLM) but when I fly back after a 28 day cruise I can only bring back 20 kgs ??? (Easyjet) both booked by ideal cruising.
What am I supposed to do ? throw away 5 kgs of clothes !!!!
Thomsonfly website States Excess baggage charge of £6 per kilo for European Flights & £10pk for long haul. It also states for inclusive Thomson Holidays, which is you, the baggage allowance will be in your tour brochure. You can take extra on any flight if your prepared to pay for it.
I went into Thomas Cook shop yesterday, and one girl said the baggage allowance was 15kg, then another assistant corrected her and said it was 20kg. The latest brochure says its 25kg for all cruises from May 2008. Is it any wonder I'm confused!! Tomorrow I intend to phone my travel agent and hopefully be answered by a different sales assistant. Our frinds on the same cruise have been quoted 20kg normal, and paid for 5kg each extra allowance for £35.
You have my sympathies, but I have written this so many times. If your going to book a cruise, go to a Cruise Specialist who know what they're talking about. Forget High St Travel Shops, most of them wouldn't know a cruise ship if it landed in their bathtub.
Speak to your travel agent they'll be able to help surely?
Always cheaper to book extra kg in advance. Thomson will screw you at the check-in if they have the time and depending on the mood they are in. All theses airline check-in desks make bonuses out of extra revenue squeezed from customers.
Last year on a flight to Southampton from Edin at 6.30am, I was sent away from check-in desk to a desk at end of airport to pay a surcharge of £11 for 1kg MORE than my allowance. Get out of bed on wrong side did she ?????? I was once behind a passenger in the same position who simply opened his case and put some more clothes on!!!!!
Why don't you do as other passengers seem to do. I recently went to Cyprus with my 15kg luggage allowance stuffed into a smallish case. My goodness me folk were carrying hand luggage that was bigger than I had checked in, this seems to be the norm nowadays, my suggestion is put the heavier items such as shoes etc in the hand luggage, also most cruises do lovely toiletries etc, so you could cut dwn on this. We went with Fred Olson last year and they sometimes charter their own planes, it was great we could take 25kg, so didn't worry. have a good hol.
