It usually signifies that the cabin has the facility for additional occupancy, usually with one or two fold down beds that are permanently attached to the walls. If there is only 2 of you in the cabin then it/they can be a bit of a nuisance. If you are looking at a brochure then a full explanation of * or ** will be somewhere on the deck plan page. Other symbols may indicate a door connected to the adjoining cabin. If looking online you may have to scroll down the page to find this info.

I am not going to give a comic answer here because I believe that you are a wonderful person and undeserving any mickey-taking. I take it that you are referring to the deck plan in which case if you study the notes on the side it should tell you what * indicates. If this is not the case then I take back all I've said. ...
