Leake - Answered a Question by Jones (06 Aug 08 15:12)

As with most Northern European countries the weather in the Balticscan varies a deal in summer, my advice is pack as you would for Great Britain. Tips To save getting lots of different currencies - Euros are accepted in the main tourist areas although the USA Dollar is the currency of choice in Russia. In most of the major Baltic capitals you can to see most of the major tourist sites using the local tourist hop-on and hop-off buses these usually include a stop at the cruise terminals, so no walking is invloved and the cost is significantly cheaper than the ship's organized excursion. This also enables you to tailor make tour to suit your own tastes. In Tallin use the shuttle bus to the city centre and explore this wonderful city on foot, please note, that although most bars and resturants do accept the Euro not all do, so ask before ordering.

I've just returned from a Baltic Cruise on the Oriana. The ports of call were all excellent, especially St. Petersburgh. The weather was mixed, the first 3 days quite wet, but improved every day, and by the 2nd week the sun shone and was about 22 degrees. Enjoy Lynn.

Whittle - Answered a Question by Jones (04 Aug 08 14:28)

We are going on a Baltic cruise at the beginning of September. If you read other reviews on this area, I think you will find that the general concensus is that you either take a ship's tour or book with a local tour operator in St Petersburg. This way your visa is arranged for you. I understand that it can be quite expensive to obtain your own visa and that you definitely would need to speak Russian. We have followed this advice and we have booked through Alla Tour for the two days we will be in St P and, so far, they have been very efficient and friendly. They are also cheaper than the ship's tours. Will post a review when we return.

Dear Mr Whittle, We too went with Alla and thought she was very impressive and so much better value than the ship's tours. Looking forward to reading your review.

Travelling with children on Cr...

By Josephine Wright

Hello fellow cruises, I have recently been checking what it would entail for me to take my grandson on a cruise ,and of course he has a different surname , If you are thinking of taking a child relative or not then it might be good to read on and check out what to do to avoid stress at the Port or Airport for that matter. If you are travelling with grandchildren or friends children or indeed your own child but they have a different surname to you on their passport, you need to take precautions...

Lovely Eclipse Weekend

By Lee Johnson

Lee Johnson's blog

I have just had a fantastic 2 night cruise on the wonderful Eclipse. The mini cruise was part of my month long 40th Celebrations and was a little getaway for me and my partner. It is the first time in 14 years that we have been away without the children and although we missed them we had such a great few days.We started the break by heading down to Southampton, which is a bit of a trek from Barrow-in-Furness but I find it no problem by rail. I would recommend staying over in Southampton the ...

Fred To Enter The River Market

By Camilla Edwards

Camilla Edwards's blog

Fred Olsen have long been one of my favourite cruise lines, Braemar was the first ship I ever did a ” proper cruise”. When I say proper I mean not a mini cruise or ship visit as it was a 14 night Canary Islands sailing. In the last couple of years Braemar has been one of the lines ships that have started to do river cruising. Although in reality it is not really totally river cruising as the ships have been sailing from a UK port – Dover or Southampton.German Waterways sails ...
