If you read too many of these reviews you would never go. We went last year on a basic cruise ship.Nothing fancy.Not one person complained the whole trip.We enjoyed it so much we have booked two more. Just go for it.

Oh, Mrs. Greenwood, I sympathise with you. Yes, I can see that it can be bewildering but what you are really looking at are the ramblings of people who love cruising and will play up if something is not exactly to their taste when they're home but put them on a ship and they're as happy as Larry. When picking a cruise first look at where you would like to go, then think how much you would like to spend, then look at who is going there. Having done that pick the best cabin you can get for the money you have. There are ships to avoid as first timers but the best thing to do is to pick your cruise as above then study what Berlitz (you can look at Berlitz Guide to Cruising on this site) has to say about it and if you like what you see then go for it and I am willing to bet you'll love it.. Agree with you Ida, I've been cruising for many years but if this site had existed back then I probably would have been put off. Greenwood, take no notice of ramblings, everybody on this site likes to have a moan about something. Crikey I'm actually agreeing with the Downs for a change!

Well done Sheila, Your first cruise is often your best. Personally I would go for 4* or even 5* and for my first time stay away from NCL and Costa until you know more about the market. I am dubious about Ventura as well and would prefer to see if she settles down. These are very personal views and may not be those of the majority. Just know that once you start cruising it's almost impossible to stop.. regards. ....Ida.

Has anyone just returned from the P & O Aurora Cruise to the East Med. that ended on Sunday. My friend has been on that cruise and said the food was not up to standard. As I am thinking of doing the Aurora next year, can I have your comments please.

Another vote here for Celebrity - you are greeted with a glass of champers as you board - the service and food is excellent. Pick your itinerary and get booking!

Mrs Greenwood...we were in just the same boat (parden the pun..) never cruised before, never really certain how we would get on...mal de mer etc. Two years ago we saw our first BIG ship up close in port in Rhodes (it was the Grand Princess) and my husband said, "I want to go on that". So after much searching the boards as you are now,we finally took the plunge (sorry another pun !) and went for it. Decided where we wanted to go... love Med holidays on land - Turkey / Greek Islands etc, so seemed sensible we should head in that direction. Was certain we wanted some degree of class, and not 'Butlins on Sea' so eliminated the cheaper end of the market... come on those experienced cruisers - you know the lines I mean. Looked at the ones that were left...Princess was a contender, but Celebrity kept coming up tops, on price (a fair bit cheaper than the others}and itinerary. To help make the final decision they had a brand new ship, (Solstice) going on a perfect itinerary with a balcony cabin for same price as a normal sea view cabin on other lines. So - its all booked - now just got to pass the next 12 months, watching these boards, and believe me they are addictive, throwing in the odd question and comment here and there - you will to! Book well enough in advance and I'm sure you can still get a bargin going just where and on whatever you fancy. Gook Luck and Enjoy - we will !!

Mrs Greenwood and Overton's .... Comments and reviews are always interesting ... but one does wonder at times 'what people expect'. I have been on a number of cruise lines and even taking the one I least liked ... it was fantastic and I would go again ... some people on ships always seem to find a complain (or look for one) ... my system just smile and ignore them. Celebrity .. you are sure of a good time in every way .. I am spending a month on their Infinity soon .. which will give me 4 cruises on them ... so I must be happy. The only problem with a cruise ... one you do one it starts an expensive hobby. Have fun Neil.
