Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by Walker (27 Jul 08 23:30)

Hello to the Walkers..... Even if you are at the entrance to the Mediterranean you should have no need for heavier clothing on deck at night in August even with this uncertain weather that prevails at the moment. The only reason for taking something like that would be to combat the air conditioning, which is strong on some ships, but in you cabin is controllable. I have never experienced any problem with mosquitoes even when the ship is docked overnight. They have an aversion to salt water, it is not in their general life at all so they avoid it. I hope that averts any fears you may have. ... Neil .

I have never taken Heavier clothing, except a fleece, on a Med cruise even in the depths of winter. August in the Med at night should be warm as a general rule.

We did the Med last August. It was hot, hot, hot. I'd recommend taking a cardigan for evenings onboard, sometimes the air-conditioning feels a bit cool. However, I did a Canaries/Morocco cruise in April and nearly froze to death, so this time as I head off to the Baltic, I'm determined to take a jacket...just in case!

I have just returned from a med cruise and only one night did I need to put a cardi round my shoulders. Other nights still warm at midnight even with strappy tops. No mosquitos as I know of.

No on all counts, I've been to the med on several occasions on a cruise in August and it is always pleasantly warm in the evenings, definetely don't bother packing anything heavier than a light cardigan, or shawl. No mosquitoes either Have fun!
