We went on a black sea cruise on th e thomson "emerald" 1 year ago.we visited odessa, yalta and sevastopol and did not need a seperate we went on organised excursions perhaps the ships travel organisers took care of any visa requirements on a bulk basis.on the 14 day cruise we did not have a visa requirement for any of the ports visited.

Yes you need a visa, their Embassy located Ground Floor, 78 Kensington Park Road London W11 2PL Tel: (020) 7243 8923, Fax: (020) 7727 3567 They say 10 days if you submit in writing but 3 days in person and the cost is Tourist: £20 (single-entry); £35 (double-entry). A handling charge of £20 is also required from the Embassy for each application. Can't help with the info on the other ports some other contributor might oblige.

We have recently returned from the Calypso cruise to the Black Sea and you don't need to organise any visas yourself Thomson do it all for you!!! It was not even mentioned to us! Read my review over on the review section of this site. Istanbul was our favourite port...then Nessebar in Bulgaria, Sevastopol and Constanta the least favourite. It was interesting though and we are glad we went.

No visas are required but your passport is stamped prior to going ashore, you must take it with you ashore. There are some very interesting sites to visit and it is easy to get a taxi to take you to them. One tip is to know what you want to see and not let the driver dictate where he is going to take you. They are well known for going to places where they get a kick back and you will pay over the odds for visiting a place of little interest, so do your homework. The other scam to watch out for is when you go to a club/bar to make sure that you know the price of everything you want before ordering it as they can and do load the price, 500%/1000%, and you have not got a leg to stand on if you have not asked the price, remember most of the menus and price lists are in Russian Cyrillic which is incomprehensible to me and most westerners. ..... Neil.
