Most people choose to go to the Caribbean during our winter months because the weather is at its best there and worst in Europe. You actually want to turn your back on the best time to cruise in Europe, including the beautiful Fjords, and go to the Caribbean approaching their worst season! Also, because most European cruise lines do not cruise around the Caribbean at this time of year, you will almost definately have to go on an American ship. I understand that you wish to mark your 40th anniversary, but, unless you have got so fed up with cruising around Europe, and have seen everything that you want to, I would either delay your cruise until late 2008/early 2009 or, preferably, celebrate on the actual date with European cruise to somewhere romantic such as Venice, Sorrento or the Greek Islands? Even the Fjords can be a very romantic destination for some. If you are talking about this year, then you are leaving it a little on the late side to book many cruises. I notice that the Arcadia, an adults only ship, is Sailing from Southampton on a 16 night cruise to the Med. on 10th calling at Dubrovenik, Venice and Zakinthos amongst others. It will cost around the same as many 9 night caribbean cruises. The only difference being that you will have a 2 hour drive backwards and forwards to Southampton instead of a 10 hour flight to the USA. You will have to be quick though. The last few cabins are going fast! Happy cruising.
It is a risk going to the Caribbean July to October but like last year so far this year things have been quiet, there is a tropical storm just now they are tracking but it might not become a problem. Certainly if you get to your ship nd one comes along the ship can go further into the Caribbean to miss the worst but it will still get a bit choppy with heavy rain for a day might be the worst that could happen. In 2004 we lost our two weeks in the Caribbean in Septemeber because of two bad hurricanes but we got a full refund with the cruise company we were with.
