No, it varies from cruise line to cruise line. Look on under cruise info for more details.

No they cannot. Smoking areas are becoming more and more restricted on cruise ships in line with legislation at home. You will have to check with each specific cruise line to find out their exact rules and regulations on the subject. They are being updated month on month. Generally there will be specific places where passengers are and are not allowed to smoke. These maybe outside on certain decks, whole public rooms or areas in public rooms. Most do not now allow smoking in cabins, as it is well known that this leaves a very unpleasant smell for future guests to walk into. A few lines have also banned smoking on cabin balconies whilst others still allow it. If it is that important to you, then make sure that you check each lines rules BEFORE you waste your time searching for cruises. I'm with you on this one! Happy cruising.

Ida and Neil Down - Answered a Question by Austin (24 Jun 08 19:43)

Cruise Lines are gradually changing their policies as far as smoking is concerned and it seems that every month more restrictions are being applied. Choose the Cruise Line carefully and you can almost avoid smoke. I have just come off Azamara Quest and smoking there has been reduced to two small areas and what a difference it has made. Where you need to exercise caution is in the countries you intend to visit. Egypt seems to have no restrictions about where you can smoke and Turkey is almost as bad, Greece is just as bad and at the airport in Athens virtually every table in the cafes and bars had a smoker on it and amazingly enough there was even an extra area marked "Smoking Area", bizarre .... Neil .

We have just been on po's ventura where i'm happy to say all cabins are now no smoking, i think they can smoke on their balconies and around the terrace pool, which is wrong as the kids area is right above it so it can get a bit smokey at times, they also have a smoking bar called the exchange but it really did stink and we avoided the area as much as possible the smoke also came into the arena theatre on the port side of the ship if anyone opened the door from that bar. it can be avoided but practice holding your breath so you can run through without breathing in the fumes!!! on the whole the ship is pretty much smoke free.

Living on a cruise is cheaper ...

By Dean Michaelides

So as the title suggests. Living on a cruise ship is actually cheaper than living in some major cities around the world including London, Sydney and New York. ( This is according to the Daily star so it must be true).A year long cruise setting sail from Southampton would cost from 24,000. According to one cruise company. Londoners could expect to save 5712 in living costs. In return they would be able to swap the busy tube and over priced accommodation for the life of luxury on board. As wel...

Could living on a cruise ship ...

By Sam Smith

Sam Smith's blog

I’ve heard theories that for the elderly living on a cruise ship could actually cost less than living in a private care home but I recently read an article which applies this theory to well, everyone – check this out!A recent claim believes cruising for 52 weeks could cost a staggering 35,000 less than living in a city. How does living on a cruise ship for a year sound? Taking 365 days out to relax, soak up the sun and do zero cooking and cleaning while actually saving you money c...

Fred Olsen & a few Guinness!

By Barbara Hopley

Barbara Hopley's blog

On 15th December we headed to Liverpool to join Fred Olsen Boudicca for annual Christmas Conference for 3 nights, the 1st night the ship stayed docked in port in Liverpool. This is a great city and the dock is right in the center opposite the Liver Building so within walking distance to the city. We didn’t have time to see Liverpool as we drove up in the morning leaving at 7am to arrive by 11am. Luckily the traffic was on our side so we arrived early. Myself & my colleague Teresa...
