I'm with you Wilba! Gastroenteritis (also known as gastro, gastric flu, and stomach flu although unrelated to influenza) refers to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, involving both the stomach and the small intestine (see also gastritis and enteritis) and resulting in acute diarrhea. The inflammation is caused most often by infection with certain viruses, less often by bacteria or their toxins, parasites, or adverse reaction to something in the diet or medication. Worldwide, inadequate treatment of gastroenteritis kills 5 to 8 million people per year,[1] and is a leading cause of death among infants and children under 5.[2] At least 50% of cases of gastroenteritis as foodborne illness are due to norovirus.[3] Another 20% of cases, and the majority of severe cases in children, are due to rotavirus. Other significant viral agents include adenovirus[4] and astrovirus. Many different bacteria can cause gastroenteritis, including Salmonella, Shigella, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter jejuni, Clostridium, Escherichia coli, Yersinia, and others. Some sources of the infection are improperly prepared food, reheated meat dishes, seafood, dairy, and bakery products. Each organism causes slightly different symptoms but all result in diarrhea. Colitis, inflammation of the large intestine, may also be present. Risk factors are consumption of improperly prepared foods or contaminated water and travel or residence in areas of poor sanitation. The incidence is 1 in 1,000 people.

Celebrity Edge Looks Incredible!

By Freddie Moser

So yesterday afternoon I was lucky to attend an online preview of some of the accommodation and facilities aboard Celebrity Cruises most ambitious ship ever built; Celebrity Edge….I’ll be honest when I first heard the name of the ship, I thought it was an awful choice. However it’s since grown on me, and after watching the presentation, I now see the logic in the name Edge. You see this ship is first and foremost all about design and technology, so phrases like ‘Cutting...

Can My Infant Use The Pool?

By Emma Davis

Emma Davis's blog

This was my recent question to P&O cruises, and many of you may not realise that if your child is yet to be potty trained they can not use the pools onboard, only designated pools or areas. I was hoping once my little one turned 2 I could get him potty trained in time for our cruise but unfortunatley this is not the case ( nothing ever goes to plan with a toddler!) and ive had to head out and buy yet another stash of swim nappies! So my next question was are there any pools he is going to ...
