They certainly do as we have got stung this summer as we wanted to do greek isles in august but they are so expensive now and independence is very high in july august. so really they do in the peak times or when the itinerary is really nic.

They certainly don't give any discount to people travelling alone i think these people paying double gives the discounts to other passenger.

Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by conroy-hargrave (02 May 08 19:30)

It is a matter of supply and demand and as stated some people have to pay the quoted price when the demand is high and that is their only cruising time. If you try to get a cabin on the "round Australia" cruises you will pay full wack, with a small agents discount, because the demand outstrips supply. Same old story ....Nei.

Burrows - Answered a Question by conroy-hargrave (02 May 08 20:39)

I don't really understand what is going on in the answer submitted by Roberts. The answer is "Nobody" pays the undiscounted price in cruise brochures! Who in their right mind would? The prices are already discounted by AT LEAST 20% as soon as they come out, and I have seen prices as low as 40% of their original amount! It's just the same as the "Half Price" wine in Supermarkets. Who would ever pay the full price for these wines? I think you know the answer! Everybody loves a bargain, and that is exactly what the cruise companies want you to think that you are getting RIGHT FROM THE START! Anything under £100 a day is a fair price. Anything under £70 a day is a BARGAIN! Keep that in mind when booking and you won't go far wrong. Happy cruising.

I tend to agree with you that these prices are purely indicative and are used to demonstrate how generous the cruise companies are with their discounts.I know of an elderly couple, new to cruising, who paid the published price on a long cruise and found that they paid more than double other people in similar accommodation. I think it is high time realistic prices were published in the original brochures.

Aldrich - Answered a Question by conroy-hargrave (03 May 08 12:25)

It is called the laws of supply and demand. Cruises are cheapest when they first go on sale. The more they sell the more the prices go up. So, yes, those prices in the brochure do exist.

Johnstone - Answered a Question by conroy-hargrave (04 May 08 17:02)

It's the old supply and demand issue. If the cruise or dates are popular they can charge it and if not so poular then they will discount. Also probablty some new to crusing get caught out to.
