Last on 'Emerald' in July last for 2-week cruise. It certainly had not been refurbished then. Please see my full review but basically although the crew, staff, entertainment and onboard friendliness/atmosphere are all good, the ship is now definitely showing its age and simply does not compare with alternatives even in the 'mass-market'. The gang-plank is dangerous, the bow-thrusters are frightening, the pool is unfit for purpose and the decks far too crowded on sea days. The cabins are dated (but remarkably large) It should be replaced, the crew deserve something better, never mind the paying passenge.

We went on our first ever cruise last September on the Thompson Emerald, we had a wonderful time, but it was looking a bit "tired", so I agree with the previous comments. K Meads Abingdon Oxford.

We was on the Emerald in September and October last and was made aware that she was going in to be refurbished in November last. We agree the gang-plank is the worst we have ever had to contend with.so we used the crew gangway. Having said that we have been on 20 odd cruises from 5star down and we thought the food and service on Emerald was the best we had had to date and would not hesitate in going on her again John from Plymouth 16th January 2008.

I went on the Emerald last July, I agree about the cabins being large, but there was nothing else in it's favour! Cruise lines should now begin to realise that passengers are expecting a bit more. Many passengers are quite experienced "cruisers" and there are now a vast array of ships available.
