Brunt - Answered a Question by Anon (22 Dec 07 11:44)

Most people I've met on cruise ships are level headed and circumspect and I doubt if they would even notice or care if you were gay as long as you don't make an issue out of it. Mike Brunt Norfol.

Setter - Answered a Question by Anon (19 Dec 07 18:23)

I think you will have no problem whatsoever. As a straight couple we have met several gay couples on cruises over the years with whom we have become friendly, and you dont sound like the sort who dont want to make frienships with non-gay fellow travellers! If I were you i would stay away from cruise lines which promote themselves heavilly into the Family market as you will find they carry a v. large number of children( but I freely admit I dont like being on a ship which is "over-run" with screaming kids, maybe you dont share my prejudice, perhaps i am just getting old and anti anti-kid!!) Why not think about something like Cunard, especially if, like us, you enjoy getting dressed up for formal nights of which there are plenty on Cunard. Or, if one of the up-market American lines appeal we have found Regent Seven Seas to be superb, not cheap by any means but excellent value.Go on give it a try.

You will always get one or two homophobes around but I think you will find that the cruising crowd are very liberal in there thoughts and particularly the Americans. We had lunch several times with a couple of guys on Jewel some time back and we talked openly about just this subject and they said that they found the atmosphere to be very pleasant and found nothing untoward at all. I'm sure that you will be pleasantly surprised....Id.

On board you will find 'Friends of Dorothy' meetings - just look on the announcement boards. You will not be alone! On another website there is a whole link for gay/lesbian cruisers. You could also check out Atlantis who are a company who hire out the whole cruise ship for gay cruises. These are reputed to be a lot of fun. I know there is one on Liberty of the Seas on 19Jan 0.

I must agree with earlier comments. I have never cruised with a partner as opposed to cruising FOR one) but have never found any suggestion of anti-gay sentiment. (Cunard/Saga/Emerald) I agree with setter. Go as far up-market as you can afford and stay away from the family ships. P and O have 'no children' ships. Bon voyage, guys.

Crozier - Answered a Question by Anon (21 Dec 07 18:51)

I am sure you would feel "at home" with P & O. We have met some lovely people on our many cruises with them - and including a number of gay couples. We haven't encountered any homophobes with that line - though one on each of 2 other cruise lines - but surely that is less than in the country at large. And if you are seated on a table where you are uncomfortable the maitre d' will always move you - on one occasion a gay couple came onto our table when they felt some little discomfort on the table they had originally been assigned to - out GAIN they are now good friends! We are a gay couple of long standing in our 50's/60's. we have done 14 cruise with various cruise lines, and have never encountered any problems with homophobia. We prefer large tables, and right at the start of a cruise I always introduce my partner AS 'my partner' to the other guests on the table . Over the years we have made lots of friends, both straight and gay. We never fail to meet a few other gays on cruise ships, but usually there are only a handful. If you are sociable, and not outrageously camp, you will have a great time, go for it! R&.

Viking Ocean Cruises Would you?

By Tom Harding

Tom Harding's blog

Viking have really hit the Cruising Scene hard, they are immensely popular on the Rivers of the World with countless ships cruising the Waterways of Europe, Asia, Russia and the Far East. River Cruising is a very boutique and luxury experience with small ships and an all included feel. Viking in 2015 decided that they would next conquer the Oceans of the World and like Viking on the Rivers, they havent messed around with 6 ships due to be in the fleet by 2020 and with the Viking Star and the...

Earning cash at sea by taking a selfie.

By Steve Fuller

Steve Fuller's blog

Selfies have become very popular and with social media like Face book and Instagram you can’t look though any news feed without seeing a selfie from someone.I often joke to my girlfriend, who happens to like a selfie. Well, she tells me that she takes load but only the odd couple are chosen to be posted. Yeah right I think! Anyway, joking with her I once said you should get a job involving selfies you’d be good at it. Low and behold would you believe it? One has only gone and beco...
