Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by carberry (23 Nov 07 14:06)

To the “Carberrys” Neil and I would like to thank you for your comments and thoughts. This is particularly pleasant because at times we have been considered rude and unappreciative but have always tried to be interesting if sometimes controversial. We have thought about putting our thoughts and ideas and memories down but the trouble is the whole process keeps being interrupted by the preparations for yet another cruise. We love our cruises and also hearing fellow cruisers on all aspects of cruising and learning this way is a pleasure and infectious. Once more…. thank you….. and here’s hoping we meet up afloat. Truly Yours Ida and Neil Down .

Did you post that yourselves? Yes I am aware of your various aliases, I have been on cruisecritic where I believe you pen in another name so maybe this post is from yourselves!!!!!! "October 6th, 2007, 06:29 PM Replies: 836 Jewel Of The Seas - March 30, 2008 - Transatlantic Views: 12,913 Posted By Neil Down C U next June Hi everyone, We're David and Jean (alias Neil Down and Ida Down) and will be joining you on this Transatlantic voyage. David is from Cornwall in England and is happy to translate for anyone who cares..." Personally I wouldnt trust the opinions of those who post in an alias, what do they have to hide?

Neil and Ida Down - Answered a Question by carberry (25 Nov 07 11:59)

Dear “Geordie” is that your pseudonym to hide behind? If the cap fits……. I would also like to know where the “Williams“ found out about my title as that is privileged information. Nothings safe nowadays is it? In answer to your question….No, of course I didn’t send it in myself, and I find that implication quite offensive. We love our cruising and most of the people we meet and to be greeted by familiar faces from both crew and passengers is so rewarding. Just this morning we were talking about several of the staff and how much of a difference they made and meeting two old friends from a previous cruise and another who had been my quiz partner on our last cruise put the icing on the cake. Our dining companions were a real treat and the whole time our table was buzzing. People and their views and attitudes make so much difference to a holiday. Life is for living and enjoying and there really is so much out there to enjoy. Sincerely yours…….Neil .

Dear Carberry- I am not angry at all- I, like you, always check this site for good advice as I am a relatively inexperienced cruiser and would never presume to give advice such as that offered by the Downs. However I have been an avid reader of this site and on more than one occasion have found comments made by the Downs as unhelpful and rude to some of the cruisers on here- hence my comments. I guess it is a matter of opinion and down to experience as to which advice one takes. Happy cruising.

Dear David and Jean- may I call you that? Touche to your comments! quite good for you! I am posting under this name since internet security protocol deems that I do not post in my actual name, I am not hiding behind assumed names, just an avid reader of this site since I am, compared to your esteemed selves, quite an inexperienced cruiser and hope to glean valuable info on a variety of cruise issues, which I do get on this site, except from yourselves. Whilst you may be very experienced cruisers, as I have mentioned before, I have read some of your comments to other cruisers and they are rude- this bothers me since instead of you being a valuable source of information for those new to cruising, I feel that sometimes your comments, may actually put people off cruising. I hope not, since I for one, and obviously yourselves too, find cruising to be a most valuable experienc.

Geordie, We do not intend to get into a slanging match with you. Suffice it to say that you might have a look at an authors name and if it is one of ours the just ignore it and read others peoples. Our views are our own and it would be a sorry world if we all had similar views. Good luck with yours….Neil and Id.

Two nights on Indy..

By Alison Ranaldi

Alison Ranaldi's blog

Last week I spent two nights on the newly revamped Independence of the Seas.We sailed from Southampton in glorious sunshine to Le Havre and back. This was my third time on board this ever-popular ship and I was keen to see the changes to her after a big refit. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9 which had everything we needed for a comfortable break. I’m not generally a fan of mini-cruises. They offer an excellent way for someone like myself to see the ships but I do not think they are a g...
