I went on the marco polo last year and really enjoyed it. its only a small ship but very friendly and you don t get lost on board, its like an old fashion ship but it was clean and comfy, the captain was from norway and very friendly and quite good looking with a rugged look, i suppose you don t want to know that. get on board and enjoy yourself.
I was on the Marco Polo in 2005. Venice to Rome. I would say it is like a small version of the QE2. It has many loyal passengers from the UK, US and Australia. I wouldn't worry about the trip, as I recall the service and food was good.
My husband and I had a 13 day cruise on the Marco Polo in August 2007. We have cruised many times before on other cruise lines and this was to be our first cruise on this line, sadly it will be our last.
The service was second rate, the food mediocre altogether a dreadful experience. We cruised with a couple who had cruised on the Marco Polo 5 times before and were very disappointed with their cruise this time, I know that the Marco Polo has been sold to another cruise line, possibly the present owners do not care about their present clients?
Hope you have a better cruise than us.
We went on the Marco Polo 4 times in 2 years and we enjoy evertime we go on and would go again if there is an inventry that we haven't done. Its small and very friendly and I particularly enjoy going up to the Buffet on the aft deck and eating breakfast looking at the sea. The Marco Polo is owned by NCL and is the classical style of cruising. The passengers come from all over the globe, not just British and both crew and fellow passengers are very friendly. You will enjoy yourselves if you like small ships.
My husband and I travelled on Marco Polo from Manuaus up the Amazon and on to Barbados and we thought it was superb. We have done 4 cruises now with different companies and the Marco Polo was the friendliest ship to date, with a mix of Americans, Europeans and brits. Smaller intimate ship with great entertainment. Only downside is that she is an older vessel and showing her age round the decks and in the cabins. Food and service better than P & O. You will have a wonderful time.
We have been on Marco Polo a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not so much to do as on larger ships but still very good. Have a good time.
Have sailed on Marco Polo 8 times and enjoyed every cruise. Marco polo is considerably smaller than other most of the ships you have been on but I do find her very friendly. Passenger mix is approx 60% American (but not the loud ones) 20% British and the other 20% European, South African and I have even met Australians on the ship. Age range 45 plus with the majority being young at heart retired. The food is acceptable but is not 5 Star and geared to American tastes, but always well served. Last year I noticed Bar prices had shot up quite a bit and barstaff were not busy as a result, so maybe they have addressed than one this year. I was trying to book on Marco Polo this year but I had already covered most of her itineries. As she is an older ship there is not a lot of raz-mataz, more a quiet ambiance. Shows are not the best but equally so not the worst. They do have a rather nice classical trio, and the piano bar is quite good.
Tea and coffee and other hot drinks available 24 hours on deck, haven't tried their room service as I am an outdoor person.
I am deeply saddened that she is changing hands next spring and will only be doing Norther Europe and British Isles sailing out of Tilbury which means that possibly it will be all British passengers.
This is the only ship I have been on where I have had the whole pool deck to myself at 10p.m. at night. (money can't buy you that anywhere else). Have a great trip on this my favourite ship. Yes she has a few warts but there is a great atmosphere on the ship that I have never found on any other ship regardless of star rating.
We sailed on her once, we were not impresse.
We have been on marco polo twice and enjoyed it. food is quite good - not fabulous - nice small ship for someone who has not cruised before.
