Sorry I forgot to add that we went in January and it was very hot with short but heavy showers in the afternoons.

Hi, can't help on Colon, but we stopped at Puerto Limon in December on P&O Oceana. I didn't book anything but we got off the ship and there were loads of tour companies with guides, cars and stands on the dock. My husband sorted us (me him and 2 teenagers) a trip with one company to the Sloth Sanctuary. Cost half the price of a P&O tour, but much more fun. Robert our guide /driver was brilliant told us all about Costa Rica, himself, the police, himself, the drugs cartels himself etc! Took 30 mins to get there and it was fantastic. Because we were not part of the organised tour we had our own guide who took us to see all the baby sloths they are caring for, showed us a film on the sanctuary and then let us in the cages with the adult sloths. There is a rainforest walk you can do and you also get an hour on a canoe with a brilliant guide who showed us all sorts of wild birds-amazing, sloths hanging in trees and iguanas and caymens-small crocs. Robert waited for us and was going to take us to a banana plantation, but we decided we'ld rather drive back. He did this a different way so we got a good overview and finally dropped us off in Limon. Wandered round the streets - like going back 50 years but seemed safe and friendly. Local type market on the dock. If you are after duty free either cigs or alcohol forget it. We had a lovely time and the sloths were amazing! Wouldn't recomend the beach we passed a few and the sea looked pretty rough for swimming. Weather threatened rain but it never happened but it was very hot - Enjoy!
