This was the first time that my wife and I have cruised. What an experience! Cruise ship was Azura evening dining in the Oriental Restaurant, faultless food and service. In fact the whole dining experience including the buffet was a real pleasure...  Read More >>

Best way for me......New York to Southampton, you gain 10 hours ( 5 x 1 hour gained and 5 x 1 hour not lost.) As you have been told use the Staten Island Ferry for the good view of Madame Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline and enjoy the walk back up to South Street Seaport, again for free. There is no charge for walking around Little Italy, Greenwich Village and in fact lots of places in New York; just absorb the atmosphere of a super place. ......Neil

If you go on QM2, you will dock in Brooklyn and you will only see Liberty in the distance. Ships docking in Manhatten sail closer. I would agree with Wilba that in the land of the free, very little is free but the Staten Island ferry is. Pick it up from lower Manhatten. You have to get off at the other end but you can then just get straight back on if you want. The ferry runs about every 40mins. If you fly out its a daytime flight whereas most flights back are overnight although there are some flights back leaving early morning and arriving back in UK late evening. Arriving in NY by sea is quite spectacular but it will be early morning and maybe dark or foggy and then you have the long wait at immigration. Why not cruise both ways? ....Brian

The best and cheapest way to see Liberty is to take the Staten Island Ferry. It passes very close both ways and is completely free ...........Wilba

We found it best to Fly out and sail back no jet lag ,and sailing out of NY late afternoon would give you a better chance seeing Liberty.....Taffy
