We went on the last cruise of the season in September. As has been said it is not something you see just like that. We took a Float-plane trip out of Ketchikan into the Misty Fjords and saw some there catching salmon after we landed on one of the lakes and paddled the plane to a corner of the lake. ....Neil

Summer, July till September however you are unlikely to see them from any cruise ship destination or excursion unless you do a cruise tour which involves going further inland. Princess Cruises or Holland America Line specialise in this and they have inland lodges so give them a call. Take plenty insect repellent as the mosquitoes are huge and go around in squadrons. Good luck.

You could Cruise to Alaska and maybe extend your stay at one of the lodges in the National parks for a few days. You will need to know when the Salmon start their journey back to the place they were born to get the best chance of seeing them and hope that the Bears are out of hibernation. We met a lovely group of Alaskans on our last Cruise who said that the best time is late February or late October. Unfortunately these times are outside of the Cruise ship schedules.
