Q: I recieved an e-mail in December from this site about fuel surcharges. It stated that some companies were paying it back or giving onboard credit if already paid. We paid ours at the weekend and mentioned this to the cruise agents. We were told we had to pay the full mount as fuel had to be a certain level for a certain amount of time and if we were entitled to anything we would get onboard credit when we arrived. This is with Royal Carribean, has anyone any ideas how this works and how we could find out if we are entitled to anything when we depart in August. Thanks 5 answers

thank you all for your replies. We booked with a well known cruise club. On our booking invoice it states we have to pay £120 fuel surcharge, when final invoice arrived nothing was deducted so we rang them and they said we had to pay it in full and if the price of fuel stayed at a certain level for a certain amount of time RCI would give us the money back in the form of onboard credit, which is fine. We shall have to see.

We have just been on Independence and just before our final payment was due, we received a letter from our TA reducing our final payment as the fuel supplement had been removed. You should therefore talk to whoever you booked your cruise. However, the price of oil is again rising and approaching $70 so fuel supplements might come back or may not be refunded....Brian

As I remember it if you had paid your final account then you were to receive an onboard credit to cover the over-payment. If you still had the final amount to pay the fuel surcharge would be a credit item on there and the bill would be reduced by that amount. I do not remember any mention that surcharges would be credited to your onboard account this late in the season. The question you must ask is; did you pay these extra charges, they will be on your original invoice, and if you did were they not a credit item on your final account? You actions now rely on the answers to these questions, the main one being .....Did you actually pay the surcharge to start with?. .......Neil

Hi ,first you have to get a breakdown on your cruise cabin price-air price -taxes and fees-service charge -pre and post if needed, then you can do a price on the cruise that your going on from the RCI site and check from the breakdown if there are any reductions, if there is a change in anything contact your TA to phone RCI , if there is a reduction then the cost to the TA is given which should be given to your account. I hope though you have booked through a good Cruise TA and not a high street company as they usally do not know anything about this, I actually do a booking on the RCI about every 2 weeks to see if anything has happened, I got a refund from the air fare , good luck
