This is the answer i got from Fred Olsen when I e-mailed them regarding refund of fuel surcharges. The only thing is i cant get anything out of them whether we are going to get all of it refunded and also the fact that we have not got this in writing before we go on the 19th February.
Thank you for your email.
This is the E-mail i got back from Fred Olsen when i e-mailed them, only trouble is dont know how much and it looks like we will have to wait until we get on board to see how much. We go in 4 weeks time, if you get a better answer from them please let me know.
With reference to your enclosed email, fuel supplement will be refunded on board the ship, which will be worked out what will be refunded and apply this on to your booking.
If you go to the Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines web-site under "our ships" it states categorically that any fuel charge levied will be repaid in the form of "on board" credit. I suggest you download this and take it with you on the cruise.
I couldnt find anything under "our ships" but under news was this.
"For cruises commencing after 1st January, 2009, passengers will be refunded their fuel supplement if the price of Brent Crude Oil 1M (as quoted in the Financial Times) converted to Sterling is, on average, less than £40 per barrel in the previous calendar month before their departure."
How could you find out if the above applies before you go to make sure it is applied to your account.
Thanks for any help.
If you go to the Fred. Olsen site, go to "our ships" and go to a specific cruise you will see on the left the updated policy.
You have little to worry about as the price of Brent crude oil is currently close to US$40 so you should get a refund. Check any of the broadsheet newspapers (Times, Guardian etc) business pages and the information is given on a daily basis.
