Q: We are looking to book our own flights for a cruise that departs Venice and finishes at Rome. We have no problems with the first part of the trip “Venice” but we have never flown in or out of Rome.
I have a couple of questions perhaps someone can advise please.
1 I think there are two airports in Rome are they both easy to make your way to after departing the ship. Also what would be the recommended transportation for the journey?
2 Is it possible to book your flights with Easyjet. Ryanair, BMI, Monarch etc for a multi city trip? I know this can be done with the big players but do not see any facility on the above web sites which means the journey has to be booked as individual trips which increases the flight cost quite a lot.

YES you can, as said, we have done it several times with Easyjet but remember you are totally in the frame if things go wrong so best to go a day or two early and a day or two after helps.Rome is easy train back from the port, then coach its all on here, put Rome in the Q&A BOX top of first page or Venice LOTS OF INFO THAT WILL HELP YOU..........Bobby S

We have done this sort of thing on a number of occasions Personally I prefer to use BA for security and both flights are then on the same booking. Should there be any problems with cancellations, delays, etc you have a little insurance and peace of mind that BA should sort out. Booking a oneway flight with one operator and a flight with the same, or another, not on the same ticket lets the operator off the hook in case of problems. I would not travel on the same day as the cruise from Venice - give yourself some leeway. Book a hotel in Mestre and then you can get land taxi from Marco Polo to Mestre and land taxi from Mestre to Cruise Terminal. Have fun.

Dave I have used two different budget airlines on a couple of occasions, Easyjet out, Thomson back & BMI out, Ryanair back. On some occasions it has been for reasons of flight timings, other times it has been simply down to cost.........Wilba

Fumicino is the larger of two, but to be honest Dave they are both quite unmemorable. I would strongly advise you pre arrange a taxi/van for your pick up at both ends.........Wilba

Hello Dave We had the same thing with our upcoming cruise on Silhouette Venice to Rome, we found the Venice flight was not into Marco Polo Airport on a budget airline but further out, and meant an overnight stay in Venice a day before, plus on return from Rome, it was a later flight so hanging around and we have done Rome already so we decided to book the flights with Celebrity, and had a choice of flight times with BA,. sadly we have to go to LGW not a local airport, and as a early flight back and about 1.5 hr transfer time to Airport glad the cruise company are taking the strain ! If you search Limo Services for Rome there is a few companies Trip advisor also recommends some with good reviews, I think from memory on a previous cruise into rome some Cruises Companies do offer a transfer at a cost !! could be worth checking their post cruise options. Good luck !

Hi Dave: For example you could do Monarch Manchester to Marco Polo then Ryanair Ciampino back to Manchester. You would have to check the difference in the baggage allowances. Also check the timings of the flights Ciampino will take 1 hr 15min and will have to allow for the busy morning traffic too.

With the cheapy line flights sometimes as you are travelling to and from different ports you may find that you need to use one carrier for the outward flight to Venice and another for the return flight from Rome. Obviously making sure they start and end from the same airport. (EG Manchester). You simply book a one way flight out with one carrier and then a return flight with another - you will find that the return flight if a single leg will be priced in Euros rather than £. I have done this no problem, even to and from same port as sometimes the flight timings dont always work out. Fumicio and Ciampino Rome - there is not too much in it (about 20km) Ciampino being the further out.

The airlines you cite are budget airlines and generally operate within Europe. The flights as such are usually purchased individually, you don't have to book outbound and inbound with the same carrier, so you are free to shop around. I suggest you try skyscanner.net.
