Hi there, tender to shore means they cannot get into port so the ship drops anchor at sea (not to far out) and they take you to shore by a tender boat. You do not have to go to the captains night.Yes do book if you are doing a med cruise it will still be hot and you will enjoy. Pick your ship very carefully. Hope this info helps.

Why do you not want to go to the Captains Night? Just curious.

We have done this cruise several times and its glorious. Thomson provide excellent value for money, service is first class, food very good and entertainment is brilliant. You do not have to go to the Captains Cocktail dinner but its very nice! You can go to the buffet restaurant that night if you wish and you dont have to dress formally if you go there, but go on....just try it for once, enjoy your cruise.

Thank you for your answers The reason for asking about the captains evening was that my husband does not own a tuxedo and it would be too pricey to go out and buy one.

50 quid Tesco, Matalan at sale time, but a suit is fine. Honest.

We have been on the Spirit, and it was really enjoyabe. My hubby always wears a smart suit, not a tuxedo. It is a 'must' to do Captain's night, you will enjoy it, honest. Have a good one.

Cant understand why you go for formal cruises if your husband doesnt want to wear tux . Other ships are casual.

Thank you all for your answers, I have held off too long as the deal has gone now. So will have to look for a hotel based holiday instead. Maybe next year save up some extra pennies and see what happens, but again thank you.

A tender is when you get a small boat to shore as the ship cant get close enough to disembark .Doesnt happen that often to my knowledge, but quite good fun.
