hi i'm neil, my wife leeann and i, just returned from a med cruise on the destiny, put your worries to rest, go all inclusive, on food and drink, its the cheapest way, and book by portland-direct cruises, you get the same thomson aircraft, same reps, etc, but save from 50 to 100£ cheaper, the ship is around 30 years old, little dated, compared to modern cruise liners, but dont let this put you off, the service, the staff, the food, is brilliant, like the captain said to us, this is your home, treat it like your home, and enjoy, we went on it, for our hoonymoon, i'm 35, my wife 33, most of the people on board seem to be over 40's, 50's, but their is a good mix of ages below that, get a room deck 3 or higher, deck 2 i hear is noisy, as its close to the ships engines, you will feel the ships engines, all the time, this you get used too, we have just booked another cruise for june 2010, on thomson destiny, cant wait to board it again, enjoy the ship, every time the ship docks, the crew are out painting it, treat the crew as friends, and they'll look after you, from neil and leeann tomlinson

Suspect you mean Captain's cocktail night. Captain's tables aren't for plebs like you or I (LOL). There's enough who wear DJ & bow-tie and enough that wear suit & tie for hubby to feel comfortable in either that night. Other nights, reasonably smart, eg collared shirt with or without tie, trousers. regards, Chris

Thanks very much for your help its very much appreciated will let hubby know it will be peace of mind for him to know he does not have to buy new suit, as he has quite o a lot of dress trousers he can wear.

This 'pleb' has been on a captain's table! I swear that it can be random. It's not as if I was even in a suite!

You may also see me on the captain's table one day. The day that I see an advert "ship's catain required, no experience neccessary"....regards, Chris

As he obvious has an enquiring mind may I suggest the same os for someone else a couple of days ago that; he looks at two good sections on this site which should make interesting reading for him. Look under "Cruise Guide" and then click on "First Time Cruisers" and "Life Aboard" and these will give you a lot of information, in fact the whole of that section is worth reading. If you are still unsure about certain things come back and ask us. Oh and....There is normally no dress code when dining with the crew.... Neil

How do you know that you are on the Captain's table? On the formal nights a dark business suit and tie will do or a Tux.
