1st Do you wish to to have a fly cruise or a comfortable uk sailaway- Dover is very near to you. 2nd Choose What you wish to see, ie, scenery - Norway. History, culture & sun - The Med.Island hopping Canaries or Caribbean(Jan-March). 3rd Do you smoke - if not, steer clear of Island cruises, MSC, Italian ships, just ask some questions about the smoking policy before booking.4th look at size of ships.Fred Olsens have smaller caring ships, whilst the larger fleets offer better amenities, but more que's and add on's.Remember a smaller ship can dock in port whislt larger ones have to tender you ashore in the smaller ports. 5th check out the cost of excursions, they do vary dramaticaly.6th Tipping/Graturities. Always check this, as many companies are charging up to $12 per person per day and its added to you final cabin charge.JUST DO YOUR RESEARCH PROPERLY AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME. REMEMBER YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND SOMEONE COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMETHING - WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT.

Thomson Destiny is an ideal, friendly ship to sail on for the first time. We sailed the Med on her when she was the sunbird and from that experience we are now confirmed cruisers. Definitely the friendliest shio we have sailed on.

Suggest you start with a new ship that will have larger cabins and all the amenities. I would push you towards P&O, Princess, RCI, Celebrity or NCL for a good first cruising experience.

P&O Oceana. All P&O ships are fine but Oceana is a great ship for a first cruise. Try a one week cruise just to see if you like it.

If I were you I would not try any of the Island Escape cruises - they are very low standard. P&O are excellent (been on 4 cruises with them). Princess are also excellent (sailed on 2). Carnival also very good but more inclined towards younger people.
