Viking River cruises going to Gibraltar! That should be an interesting trip hope the sea is calm make sure you can swim. If you mean NCL Jade then you should be OK Gib has a few caves a thousand ton gun Europa point and not so cheap shops you can easily walk around Lisbon take the shuttle bus in and there is a walking tour with I-pod takes about 2-3 hours but you can stop off when and where you like. Pisa is also an easy trip but you must be back on time if you go it alone if you miss the boat you find your own way back home at your expense.

put the the port name in the search questions and you will get plently of hints and tips. i cannot think of a port on the med that you cannot do own thing with a bit of research....you get stacks of time in the ports and providing you keep an eye on time the dangers of missing ship are very remote.....

Gibraltar is fantastic but most ships only spend a few hours there. The top of the Rock and St Michaels Cave (use a taxi, not the cable car as you will queue for ages) is a "must see" but keep an hour spare for shopping on Main Street. Lisbon has a number of attractions however your 8 year old may get a bit restless as it involves a lot of walking- it may be best to take a tour here. You could always take her to the beach at Estoril or Cascais( 20 -30 minute train ride from the cruise terminal station just outside the dock gate. Afraid I cant comment on Pisa as I have never been but hope you enjoy your cruise.

Gibraltar as you say the apes but you can take a bus tour around the rock for next to nothing, DONT book it on the ship. Also Gibraltar is the cheapest duty free destination in the med area. Lisbon we did a coach tour via the ship, we paid well over the top, again local busses and taxis to take you around. Pisa is well worth a visit; allow plenty of time if you want to climb the tower, sometime there are long queues. Again when you get off the ship there will be plenty of tours at a reasonable rate to take you to Pisa. Use the search engine to look for other ports.
