Q: We have bboked a great deal with www.cruise.co.uk fora three day stay in Dubai then a twelve day cruise which includes stops at the Indian ports of Mumbai, Goa, New Mangalore and Cochin. We are fairly independent and prefer to do our own thing rather than go on the ship's excursions, but are having problems deciding whether or not to do our own thing at these "exotic" destinations. Is anyone who has "been there, done that" able to pass on some advice / tips / wisdom? Any help would be appreciated! 5 answers

Thanks for your link - very helpful. Ho much did you pay for the taxis in Goa and Cochin? We're thinking of some hours at a beach in Goa. Did you arrange a taxi to take you back to the ship fromthe beach or were there plenty around? What if we wanted to go to a beach futher south?

Cochin we used tuk tuks and if you read the review, they took us to the Backwater, waited an hour whilst we did the boat trip, back into town for the first bar we came to, back out into the streets stopping at a churches, spice store, probably about 4 hours in total, we paid about £12 including a decent tip. Goa a proper taxi was cheap after a bit of a haggle and there are always loads of taxis at the tourist traps such as a beach, most will sit and wait for you as it is probably the only job they will get that day ............Wilba
