I am a little bemused by this, the only thing I can think of is that sometimes tour groups assemble in the theatre and sometimes on the quayside. I can think of no other explanation. If I am right then there is no difference between the tours apart from that. I would be interested to hear if anyone has a different viewpoint. ..... Neil.

.......or the difference between ship-organised excursions ("on the ship") and those negotiated independently by passengers with local minibuses/taxis ("off the ship"). which are not organised by Royal Caribb. Presumably the website wasnt Royal Caribb's own! In this case, click on the reviews page, select all ships/western europe, and see what other travellers advise at the various ports of call. If I read you wrong and you're a seasoned cruiser, apologies for teaching grandma etc. Chris .

I have cruised with Royal Caribbean and have also been on the website looking at excursions for our RCI cruise in July this year. I have never seen any mention of this and am slightly confused. All the excusions say is where, when, how long and how much! I would be interested in more information about this thanks.
