The glacier walk was brilliant - we just did our own thing in Bergen, Stavanger etc lots to see on foot and English widely spoken. (Arcadia 2006.

Ype your answer here... Hello there, sorry you've had no response so far. Have just checked the itinerary for your cruise so here are a few tips which I hope you will find helpful. i) Bergen:- best (and easy) to do your own thing here as Bergen is very wet, having an average of 25 dry days a year - the town's logo is an umbrella! (seriously!). If the weather is good, I suggest a trip up the funicular to the Floyen where there are some lovely walks and great views over Bergen. You should also take time to wander round the Bryggen, the lovely old part of the town. The fish market is fascinating. All of these are within walking distance of the ship's berth. If you are interested in classical music it is only a 20 min. bus-ride to Edward Grieg's house. So, plenty to do here. ii) Flaam:- have never been but friends who have say the railway trip is a must - whether it is possible to do this independently or not I don't know. iii) Olden:- A lovely place in a lovely setting - the ships are usually welcomed by the town's brass band! In order to get the best out of your visit to Olden I would suggest an excursion. If you fancy a full day then Geirangerfjord would be fantastic if the weather was right. If you are fit then the walk to the Briksdal glacier might suit; another really lovely trip is the Kjenndalen Glacier and Lovatnet Lake - I have done this and can thoroughly recommend it. So, whatever you decide to do here, you won't be disappointed. There is also a great souvenir shop in the village which is about 15 mins. walk from where the ship berths. iv) Stavanger:- Depends on what you would like to do. There is a nice park, a small but attractive old town - 'Gamle Stavanger'. If you like the look of the Lysefjord and Pulpit Rock trip - and it is nice - you can either book an excursion with P&O or do it independently which will save you money. A couple of good sites which will give you more info. on this are:- www.rodne.no click on union jack, then on the Lysefjord photo then on 'read more'. www.gonorway.no click on Stavanger and scroll down to Pulpit Rock (highlighted in blue). Hope this info. is useful. Enjoy your cruise - you'll love Norway - hope the weather stays good! Regards - Janet .

We are also going on this trip on the same ship in June, we have booked up the excursions, but we had problemswith me not being able to walk far. But hopefully at your age you willbe fine. We are told the train is a must but we know the short one is booked up, so we are going on the longer one.I was a bit worried about the heights but my brother-in-law assured me the drivers are very good, hope so.I thought the one with Glacier sounded brilliant, I couldn't manage it but a YOUNGER PERSON COULD, BUT SOUNDS FANTASTIC.

I have been to the area on P & Os Oceana and can thoroughly recommend the Flam train journey and the lunch in Voss which was absolutely gorgeous. A smorgasbord and the really best seafood I have ever tasted. Good luck and take your camera and have it at the ready.

If you are going to Flam you must take a ride on the Flam Railway up to the glacier, the scenery is truly spectacular!

We agree Flamm railway we missed it because we did not book early enough. If the ship is booked you can book at the station but be there 1hr before it opens to stand any chance of an extra seat. Good look also try the North Cape the deer were great and the chapel inspiring.
