Gilliam - Answered a Question by JEFFREY (11 Jan 09 03:20)

- When cruising, NEVER stay on the ship! You miss out on another culture, another social dynamic, and most of all, another experience!!! If you aren't savvy travellers, then my advice is to dress down, ditch the trinkets of western living, have an open mind, get off the boat, and go see Venezuela. As a tourist, it's a safe enough place, that's why the ship goes there, just use common sense. It would be a real shame to miss out because someone somewhere told you it's dangerous (parts of it are, but you won't be visiting them, not unless you are really naiive...or really, really lost!). - Be brave, it's a huge world we live in, but you're a long time dead. Makes sense to see as much of it whilst you can? - Go see it.

Having recently cruised on Ocean Village 2 and having visited Caracas I would say it is not a safe tourist place. It is well worth seeing but I would suggest you take an organised trip from the ship.
