This as been asked many times if you search this site. I have used limousinesystem.com a number of times. They have all sizes of vehicles as we normally travel in groups of 6,8,10. They take a credit card for booking purposes only & pay on the day in cash each way, they will meet you in arrivals, have always been on time, good smart vehicles, & respond to any email inquiries promptly.

I was assuming you were referring to transit to/from the Airport to Port. For a day trip only take the advise of Baldwin as the taxi fare would be considerable, about 180 Euro each way. Regards.

Baldwin - Answered a Question by Robinson (05 Aug 08 18:14)

Hi I don't know about private taxis but I can tell you the train service to Rome is excellent. Usually there is a free shuttle bus in Piraeus to take you from the ship to the town. ( I say usually as more and more lines are now charging for shuttle buses)This is because the port is just an enormous container port. When you get to where the shuttle buses drop you off and pick you up it is only about a ten minute walk to the train station. Trains are regular and timetables can be printed off the internet. If you want to go to the vatican then I think it is two or three stops before Rome terminus. The only thing I would say is catch an earlier train back to allow yourself at least 3 chances in case trains get cancelled or delayed. On our cruise a taxi of Spanish guests was delayed and the boat sailed without them. One of the guests phoned to say they were stuck and would be slightly late. Unfortunately tide and cruise ships wait for no one except if they are on an organized trip! It took about 45 minutes to get to Rome on the train whereas the trips were saying about 1-1 and a half hours by coach and then there was still quite alot of walking to do as the coaches can't get right into the centre. The cost on the train was nine Euros as opposed to £75 for the shuttle transfer into Rome NOT the sightseeing trip!

I think you meant Civitavecchia not Piraeus (the port for Athens!!!) Yes we went on the train really very easy and trains were to time even on a Sunday!!

Free coach shuttle operated by the port of Civitavecchia to the port gates, then walk to the train station and catch the train for €9. It couldn't be easier or cheaper.....

9 euros gets you not only in to Rome but back again and the use of bus / tram / underground system for a period of 24hrs from point of issue. For vatican alights at San Pietro and follow signs and/or crowds. The port a Civitaveccia operate free shuttle bus to port entrance and then an easy 10 minute walk to train station.
