Q: Hi all. just back from a great cruise on Ryndam to Norwegian Fjords. Ports were all within walking distance from the ship and that saved a lot of money on shore excursions and food and drink ( Norway is so expensive). we now look forward to a baltic cruise. Can anyone say if the ports of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Taaliin are within walking distance from the berth of the ship? We know tha you need to travel in St Petersburg but that is not an issue. thanks in advance.. 11 answers

Copenhagen is a nice walk (30 mins+?) along the waterfront to Nyhavn, passing by the Little Mermaid. Tallinn is also walkable, but we took a hop on/off bus that was parked near the ship and travelled around the outskirts first. Next time I would walk, as it's a beautiful little town, and I'd like to spend more time there. Stockholm - we docked very near to everything in the centre (RCI), but there are a few different places to dock, and one port, Nynashamn, is about an hour away by train. Take a look at the following websites for more info:- http://www.stockholmtown.com/templates/page____15094.aspx http://www.avidcruiser.com/stockholm/2011/03/28/where-do-cruise-ships-dock-in-stockholm-sweden/

Mrs Taylor. I wish to thank you for your reply to my question about the Baltic cities during a cruise. I do hope you will have a great time in the Fjords. If you need some photos, I will be glad to show to you. Just let me know how I can help you in this. Regards ....Vince Agius, Malta

Glad to help! Sadly I am not going to the Fjords, although they are on my cruise wish list. Next year we will be returning to the Baltics on a cruise with Royal Caribbean. Our friends wish to go there and we are joining them. This means I can spend a bit more time in Tallinn. We did the same cruise in 2009 and loved it. The ship sails from Harwich in the UK which isn't too far from our home, and makes life a lot simpler! Say hello to Malta for me, we have holidayed there a couple of times in the 1980s. Both times we stayed in apartments in the Whitehall Mansions, Ta' Xbiex. Lovely memories!

Hi Mrs. Taylor. Glad to know you were in Malta in the 80's and staying at the Whitehall in ta Xbiex. It has changed alot since then since it now houses a number of embassies in it. Malta is still loved by many British. It is hot here right now and summer is in full swing !! I hope we can keep in touch so you may feed me more info about the Baltics. In anycase, we are planning 2013 for our baltic cruise. I have posted two sets of photos of our cruise in Norwegian fjords. You may see them on this site. regards...

Hi Mr. Agius, I have seen some of your lovely Norwegian Fjords photos, but unfortunately there seems to be a problem on the Photos page at the moment and not all photos can be seen. Let's hope they get the problem sorted out soon. It is very sad now thinking of what has happened in the last few days in Norway. On a lighter note, I have just seen the Maltese opera singer Joseph Calleja sing live on our BBC Breakfast programme - his voice is beautiful!

Mrs. Taylor, yes I know there seems to be a problem on the photos page. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon so you may view them entirely. I agree with you that it was shocking to see what happened in such a peaceful country like Norway. On the lighter note, Joseph Calleja is a great opera singer and often compared to the great Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli. He makes Malta proud of him with his great voice !!

Hello once again Mr. Agius. Half an hour ago I could view ALL photos on the Photos pages, including yours, and they are very good! I especially like the ones of the midnight sun and the seagulls. I have similar seagull photos from, I think, our last Baltic cruise. There is something fascinating about capturing still photos of birds in flight - I suppose it's something we can't naturally see without the help of a camera. Your photos of the views over the fjords are incredible. Unfortunately, on returning to the Photos page just a few minutes later, the problem had returned! Oh well, I was lucky to see them when I did!

Mrs, Taylor. I thank you for your kind words about my photos. At least you did manage to view them. It is happening quiet often that the photos page gets lost !! Cruise.co.uk should look into this since I am sure many readers are always keen to view the photos. I will be asking you for advices about the Baltic so that I may start building my baltic database and I am sure you would lead me in this.

Hello Mr. Agius. I have found my old review (and my correction underneath about "Eddie the Eagle"!) which was posted on 30th August 2009 on this site, after my Baltic cruise. http://www.cruise.co.uk/cruise-reviews/royal-caribbean-cruises/jewel-of-the-seas/read_review_16538/ If you would like to post your email address I will be happy to try and help (if I can) with other info if you need it, although I am no expert - but my husband has a good memory and I can ask him! Also, we are returning to the Baltics on the Jewel in 2012 so I can top-up my memory then!
