Fred olsen bar and drink's prices in general are very reasonable, on a par with pub prices outside London and possibly cheaper. And there's not the ridiculous 15% service charge imposed byh some cruise lines.

We were pleasantly surprised by the prices onboard all the Fred Olsen ships as many people had told us how expensive drinks are on cruise ships. We found wine with meals was cheaper than local restaurants and also cocktails were very reasonably priced compared with nightclubs here in the South East.

Are there formal nights, semi-formal nights and informal nights on board Braemar?

Yes - you normally get two formal nights per week and then a mixture of informal and casual nights - some of the casual nights are themed too eg western, British. On a 16 night cruise we had 4 formal nights, on the 13 night one we had 3 and last year which was 9 days we had 2 formal nights. When we got our tickets we were told how many formal nights there would be and what the themed casual nights were going to be. Have a lovely time - we did our first cruise on Braemar in 2004 and have had two subsequent cruises with Fred Olsen, we are booked again with them for next year.

Rocky Mountaineer Part Three

By Alana Mills

Kamloops to Jasper. This morning we left for the station early again as the train was leaving at 7.15am.Today I am experiencing the Silver Leaf Service. The Silver Leaf carriages are a single storey carriage but have large panoramic windows with an additional curved glass panel as the roof curves although the centre of the roof is solid unlike on the Gold Leaf. The windows allow you to see the scenery well so dont worry about missing out.The seats were again spacious and comfortable. They are...
