Q: Azura theme nights: we can manage the Black and White theme (I guess on a formal night) ok, but not sure there will have enough room in the luggage to include 60/70s or Tropical clothes, too. How elaborate is the fancy dress requirement and can we buy stuff on board? If so, is it expensive as we are in effect a captive market? 7 answers

People dress for the Black and White evening - a formal night - and lots of people wear their brightest things for the Tropical evening - a smart casual evening. I bought my husband a wonderful Hawaiian shirt on ebay, very cheaply but as has been said you can buy them on board or on the islands in the Caribbean. I ususally wear something like white trousers with a bright pink kaftan and you will find a floral lei on you table in the restaurant. Only the entertainment staff tend to dress for the 60s/70s evening - there is usually a disco on deck. Very few of the passengers dress for it - a few do. Hope this helps.

Thank you both for the advice - it's a relief not to have to think of something to wear for the 60/70s night but the tropical shirt for hubby is a good idea and shopping for it locally will be fun. He will be the one singing along and dancing the hula on the table, while I will probably be hiding underneath it!

Dont worry about fancy dress/tropical nights ect. Not everyone dresses for the occasion, its your holiday, enjoy it! If you feel when you are on board you want to join in, you can look for things in ports , its fun looking round local markets etc. Enjoy your holiday.

Didn't notice many dressed to 60/70's, but the tropical night the man would wear a caribbean shirt. They sell them on the ship and on all the islands for about $15. Women would just wear the most colourfull dress and the garland that they give you when you arrive on the ship. Men must have a jacket for the semi formal night. Enjoy the ship. We loved it.

I am getting into a bit of a pickle with the dress code on the Azura,we leave Barbados 17 th March sailing back to Southhampton. Am i right in saying formal nights- a tuxedo is ok? Semi formal HAS to be collar, tie and jacket?,do the colours matter? ,do they have to be dark trousers dark jacket? Smart casual nights ,will a polo shirt and smart trousers or jeans be ok? How do you know when the tropical nights are ?will they be the casual nights? Finally are you permitted to wear sleeveless vests during the day? I feel a bit thick asking all these qustions,i'm sure to a seasoned cruiser they seem very basic questions, but please bear in mind this is our first cruise. THANK YOU Wyn Bangor,North Wales

We sailed on Azura in November 2011. Formal nights are tuxedo ( a few men wear a suit but only a few and to be honest they look the odd ones out) Semi formal is a nice open neck shirt with a jacket ( no tie necessary). Casual nights my husband wore a short sleeve open neck shirt and chino trousers. Not many people wore jeans. You can wear sleeveless vests during the day but cannot be bare chested inside the ship. ladies cannot wear just swimsuits inside the ship. Enjoy yourselves.
