My partner & i were on the Oceana in May, this year, 14 nights around Western Med, It was the best holiday we have ever had, The cabin was good, clean, and inviting, the food was just supererb, in 14 days we didnt have one meal which was not good. Service in the cabin, bars, resturants was 1 st class. Their were 4 formal nights which were wonderful, all the ladies dressed beautifully, and the men looked so handsome in their Tuxedo's and, as it was only 4 nights, it wasnt too much, the rest of the time we dressed smart casual for dinner. The whole experience was wonderful, we both cant wait to get back on the Oceana...P & O...... Loved every moment, & the sail away from Gibralter is something that will stay with us forever, the patriotic feeling for England was terrific....Counting the days till we book again...Cant wait.. Rita & Bob .

Hi, six of us cruised on the Insignia in October 2008 we have all cruise with other lines, P & O , Royal Caribbean, Princess, but the whole party agreed the Oceania line outshone any other line we had cruised on so far. The ship is beautiful and staff always smiling and helpful. As for the dress code it is exactly as it says in the brochure during the day what you would normally wear for sightseeing, shorts and t shirts or linens or jeans etc and in the evenings ladies can wear anything you would wear to go out to a smart restaurant and same for the men a shirt or polo shirt with trousers, but if you want to wear a tie thats ok too. But I agree with the last post you really don't need to take a DJ as no one on board was wearing one when we were there and there were no ball gowns either, but cocktail dresses are fine. Whate ever you wear you will have a fantastic time as this is a brilliant line to cruise with and we are just looking to book again.

We cruised on Insignia last year (Buenos Aires to Valparaiso) and LOVED this beautiful ship. We particularly liked the restaurant arrangements - no set table but always a choice of dining as a couple or with 2/4/6 others. We almost always opted to share and met some very interesting people. Everyone was always very smartly dressed for dinner, even on 'casual' nights. Definitely no denim/t-shirts/cargo trousers. My advice to ladies would be to pack Posh, and very Posh for Captain's welcome party + farewell evening. Although not listed as Formal Nights, on these occasions many gents wore DJs. If you email Oceania Cruises or look at their excellent website, you'll be able to find out more about their dress code.

Having been on Nautica (sister - and identical - ship to Insignia) 3 times, the best advice is to get hold of their excellent sales literature and DVD. From these you will not see a single guy wearing a tie, much less a DJ. But I agree with the advice that ladies can go pretty much as posh as they like - stopping short of full (floor) length. Sorry, forgot to say that daytime wear is very relaxed as on any other ship - shorts, trousers etc depending on the weather. On the cruise we did, the walking/jogging track on top deck was very popular all day long, not just for morning Walk a Mile. There's a really good gym and lots of fitness classes. My hubby hates gyms but even he got enthusiastic and used the treadmill every day. So you might want to pack some trainers and exercise clothes.

I have been on a few cruises, and for daytime, anything goes. It is just the evenings that seem to cause the problems!

You will probably have one or two "Formal" nights. On these occasions gentlemen can wear a dark suit or dinner jacket and trousers. Ladies, a cocktail dress or evening dress. As it's only 1 or 2 nights at most during a week, it is quite fun to get into more genteel attire for the evening. For the rest of the cruise "smart casual" is the dress code in the evening, and there may be themed nights, but you can usually pick up a shirt and or dress aboard at very reasonable prices if not suitably equipped. Relax, go with the flow, and enjoy your holiday. It surely is not too much to enjoy a little finery in the evenings?

I have not cruised with Oceania but do have them on my 'would like to do' list. According to the the readings across the cruise sites there are no 'formal' nights, smart country club casual is the nightly rule which must be adhered to. Jeans & T shirts are a no no, as we all know how the smart casual rule is abused by some clowns......Wilba
