I should think that the men in your party should fit into the Island Star perfectly. I think Island Cruises are aimed specifically at people that don't want to dress up for special occasions. I think a cardy would be a good idea, just in case. Why should you ladies take a jacket if the men can't be bothered? Happy cruising.

Hi - we went also in August (Last Year) on the Island Star and due to go again on 27.07.08. We went to the one of the more formal restaurants - I wore a Jacket, no tie others just had trousers and open neck shirt, as long as you are tody.smart no problems. I just wouldnt go in jeans. It is very relaxed. Evenings were lovely , the odd night was a bit brezzy as you out in the middle of the sea and moving quite fast. My wife took her small cardigan and was pleased to have it even though she used it only occasionall.

Hi We went last August, honestly it has a very informal dress code. There are several eating places, a very casual diner where shorts were worn alot, then the slightly formal where the men wore shirts (open necked) and casual trousers so smart casual, the food in there is great with no extra cost! or al a carte formal suits/ties etc plus you have to pay for the food, never went in there as the others were great! Enjoy! It was a great holiday. We are going again this year. The richards family.

Smart but Casual on Island cruises. We are sailing for our 7th time with Island cruises in July. There are some people use the Lido decks restaurant in the evening but feel some passengers dont dress for this one, wear shorts who wants to dress like this in the evening. Its nice after a long hot day to shower and get dressed up for your eveing meal. They do have ladies nights when Ladies get a chance to go a step further with dress code a little bit more refined dress wear. Lets face it when do we get the chance to dress up like that at home. The Oasis restaurant and the Steak hose your dress code is more formal but you do not need a suit or Jacket. ladies yes I would take a little cardi for on deck in the evening.

AN INTERVIEW WITH A SINGAPORE EXPERT

By Zara Kelly

It has been over 10 years since I last visited Singapore, but my Mother in Law is a regular visitor. The main reason is to visit her nephew and family, but while they are at work she loves to go off and explore. During this visit, she was also treated to a lovely weekend in Bali!As I sat looking through the pictures and listening to the stories, I was amazed at how much Singapore has changed. So, I have done a short interview with Jane, who has also kindly let me share some of her wonderful p...

By Camilla Edwards

Camilla Edwards's blog

Well its very nearly Christmas and all I wish for now is some snow! Walking the dog this morning everywhere was frosty and white, made me really feel in the festive spirit. One of the best things personally at this time of the year is the food and celebrations associated with Christmas and New Year, so this week I have decided to blog about 5 of my favourite places to eat. Some on cruise ships, some not.Fed Olsen Balmoral. I always enjoy the food on Fred`s ships and Balmoral last year was no...

NCL Gem Med Cruise

By Declan Doherty

Declan Doherty's blog

The last two stops on our itinerary were Livorno and Villefranche. As we had pre-booked the Monaco & Monte Carlo excursion for Villefranche, we opted to do our own thing in Livorno and take it easy for the day. After a short coach transfer from the port to the city center we spent most of the day shopping. There were plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and we found them to be very reasonable with plenty of choice. From here we had the option of visiting Pisa or Florence or both if you ...
