On our last few cruises there are fewer and fewer men wearing tuxedo's on our cruise out of 1850 passengers only saw 50/60 the rest were dinner suits or a lounge suit, the predominant outfit was the dinner suit with bow and tie with ladies some in long but the majority knee length outfits but still well dressed on the formal evenings. Despite the above comments I will still be taking my tux on our next cruise.

Tuxedo is the US term for the complete outfit that is properly called a 'dinner jacket' (or 'black tie') in the UK. So, I should be interested to know what distinction you are drawing between the two here!

Me too!! I was baffled, although some Americans refer a tuxedo to what we call a 'white tux'.

A nice smart suit will be ok. It seemed to be the older folks that wore tukes. On celebrity ships you can hire them, look at the info on their web site it will give you prices.

Sex, drugs and ports of call. ...

By Dean Michaelides

Dean Michaelides's blog

I recently read an article from a former cruise ship employee. He was explaining that having sex, taking drugs and making friends in the onboard sex dungeon was a regular occurrence on board one Caribbean cruise liner. Despite having sex with the clients being a sackable offence the staff would have no qualms getting involved. He also mentioned that the riskier the better so as well as having sex in the staff decks they would like to push the boundaries on the unpopulated decks. It wasn’...

Piraeus Athens Gateway Or ...

By Camilla Edwards

Continuing my look at European ports this week I thought I`d choose Piraeus, the port for the Greek capital Athens.Athens is probably most famous for the Acropolis, topped by the Parthenon Temple, and the National Museum. It is a bustling, busy city with lots to do and a place I have visited several times. It has lots of really good hotels, restaurants and bars as well as its history. Many cruise ships now visit Athens using Piraeus as the anchor port. The port sits about 7 miles from the city...
