The simple answer is layers...we went a couple years ago in june...some days were warm enogh for t shirt and trousers others were chilly. temperatures similar to spring here. take a light weight waterproof .
What ship were you on and did you find that on the formal nights people did not dress up?
We were on a princess ship, and yes people did dress on formal nights...
Colin is right the answer is layers... we went in September 2008 trousers/jeans/t-shirts but remember to pack a lightweight waterproof! and good walking shoes as there is so much to see and do! depending on the cruise ship, they dont seem so formal on Alaskan cruises, we found not too many people dressed up on the formal nights as they do around the Med or Transatlantic.-dont forget your camera, binoculors, sun glasses!
Is it worth taking formal clothes or just smart casual for the formal nights? Your answer is very helpful, thank you.
What ship were you on? I am going on Celebrity Mercury.
Cruised inside passage 3 times now with HAL. We found layers to be the answer to day wear and I disagree with the point that evenings on Alaska cruises are not so formal. Most of the guests wore the appropriate level of dress for dinner and that meant that as far as I could see, a good proportion of gentlemen were in dinner suits on the formal occasions.I think us ladies find it easier to pitch the dress level as we can accessorize up or down an outfit.
