A couple of years ago a ball gown would have been perfect on such a ship. However, more recently the trend has been for less ostentatious evening wear such as evening skirt/ trousers, or slinky dress. This has made packing easier, but has spoilt the "frock spotting" which was the highlight of my formal evening! Having said that, if you have a favourite gown and you want to wear it, then go for it. You might find yourself the centre of attention, but if you look sensational, who cares.
You can never be overdressed on Cunard and you will not be out of place in a ball gown if you like to show of your finery take it it is a stunningly beautiful ship and Norway is a excellent venue for her .
Hi, you most certainly won't be out of place if you take a ball gown. I've cruised with Cunard several times and I always take my most glamorous outfits for the formal nights, including at least one or two ball gowns. As has been mentioned before on this site, you can never be overdressed on a Cunard formal night. Expect to see beautiful ball gowns, long evening dresses, lots of glam, glitter and sparkle. The men look pretty special too. I'm travelling to the fjords in May on Queen Victoria; I'll post a review on my return. Have a great cruise. Regards Jane .
Many thanks for your reasuring comment and advice.I shall certainly take the one I'm thinking of as well as more conventional evening wear. Am looking forward to it.
