Hello , I am also in a wheelchair but i can walk alittle, Yes you do need a disabled cabin, as they are alot bigger with everything you would need, if you get a balcony cabin its really nice soaking up the sun, We went on the Ventura last year, and it was my first year in a wheel chair, Everbody on the ship crew that is will go out of there way to help you, IF and when you book ask your TA that yoju need help at the Airport and transfers if needed, this went so well for us. Yes on occasions it was a little difficult to get around and some of the doors were a little hard to get through, there is also a pool that also has a lift for the disabled and is manned, the staff will aslo help at the restaurants as well, We actually met a gentlement that was paralized from the waist down and he has been cruising for years he said, he even did the trampoline and he was an inspiration, We are also booked this year and next year with RCL doing a transatlantic again on the Navigator. Also when you choose your cruise check out the ports and that your not tendered, I also know that P&O do cater for the Disabled on the excursions, All I can say to you my friend is what have you got to lose, maybe a lot to gain, Cruise companys are used to people like yourself, Go for it Im sure you will have a good time but make sure the TA knows everytrhing or you can also call the cruise line. As for the A** H**E below forget the likes of him, as there many more that will help you if you want it. OH the lifts on the Ventura was a little bit of fun , It was chase the lift before the door closed, Anyway my friend Happy cruising... Brian

OV 1 has disabled cabins, and I have seen wheelchairs on the top sun deck as one of the lifts go right up there, crew also seem very helpful getting wheelchairs on and off the ship. Check with them or see brochure page 110 for more details, or this infor could be on thier webpage ps I was on holiday when you last asked this question

If you can get hold of a Berlitz Guide they rate the ships and cruise lines, roughly the newer the ships the better the facilities .most ships have a disabled room or rooms with a wet room and lower fittings with more space to maneuver a chair in but these fill up quickly some will provide a hoist in the cabin and lots have hoists by the pool and hot tub area, they all seem to provide help getting on and of the the ship, but not all ports are wheel chair friendly. The 3 Lines we have sailed with from the UK RCI Celerity and P&O all have plenty of disabled passengers lots of them being repeat customers.Ring a cruise agent plenty have a free phone number and have a chat best of luck.

That wasn.t called for, Maybe you should try a cruise for a week and not get out of a wheelchair for the duration, You proberbly wouldn't be able to do it, this person has to like myself, (except i can walk a little) sometime its worse than hell, Try it or shut up,

So does that make it you can insult people who are disabled, so maybe I am new on here, so what , it still gives me to rite to comment on things that i know about, when i was on the Ventura there were people that looked down on us, because we was in a wheelchair, It was my first year as well in a wheelchair and yes you do learn about people very quickly. maybe your one of the moaners about everything are you. Happy Cruising

Brian do some homework and look up the previous answers all the information including how to access to photos has been given. As a matter of fact there is not a lot about wheelchair users that I have not come across my daughter and her other half are both users (spina bifida) and I have in the past both sponsored and attended camping trips for the disabled children. (Kent adventure club for the disabled now sadly closed I believe absorbed by Scope) They tried everything from rock climbing abs-ailing paragliding canoeing most really enjoyed the experience some of those kids only communicated by tapping their head on a pad then a voice box would say the sentence. They were taken down the cliffs by Territorial Army volunteers nearly all is possible given a little thought. More recently my daughter and partner went to the Caribbean without a carer. They are lucky in one way having never walked so have learned to coupe with their lot in life but never let it get in the way! The hardest thing for me is to stand back and watch when I can do something easily.

I am sorry for your daughter, but there was still no need to have answered that guy as you did, I see you have apologised, not everybody knows how to search questions, in fact I have just seen it today, I do lots of research and use the site map, maybe in future if you are going to answer the way you did then don't bother, its obvious that this guy is so confused and possible scared to go for it, and if hes anything like me I have problems what I did the day before, So especially with your dauughter the way she is, You know what she goes through,so she doesn't need negative thoughts, same possible with this guy, I'm not really having a go at you as some of your answers are not bad and its abvious that you have alot of cruise experience, but please, to this guy its a serious question and needs encouragement, a cruise could be the way to get over many of his nightmares, Thanx Brian

Brian I see that you have booked cabin 6620 this is not a disabled cabin but be aware the shower cubical is very small. I would suggest you buy a cheap shower hose in Tesco and a 15mm connex coupling throw away the nuts and olives so you can extend the hose as the WC area is sealed floor and walls you can always site on the throne and shower then store it in your draw so the steward doesn’t take it off. We have done this a lot when my daughter was younger. The coupling must be connex and not prestex as the threads are different.
