I know from reading the threads that you and Wilba are experienced cruisers. Don't want to put the fear of doubt into anyone out there, but at the time of booking your cruise, did it never cross your mind that by flying into the embarkation port from the UK same day then there may be a possibility of 'missing the boat'? I can't seem to think of anything else, so much so that I am considering changing the booked flights (through cruise line) to arrive a day early and stop overnight ... at more cost !! :-(.

To be honest, I always book scheduled airlines, and the first one out in the morning, so if they cancel that one there is a chance I will get on the next flight. I never book sleezy jet or other low cost carriers as there is no fall-back support. I also check the number of flights out in a day - Barcelona has flights about every 2 hours so I would not have probs with that. Watch this space as I now eat humble pie and miss my next cruise out of BCN....! Remember if you have booked the flights through the cruise line and you miss the boat then it is the cruise lines responsibility to get you on the ship at the next port at their cost, not yours.

As I've said many times on this site, I always book my own air carrier & if it's Europe on Cheapy Jets, we always go a day or two earlier & extend the holiday. On long haul we go on the 'quality' carriers , but always go 'early' otherwise all you ever see of your embarkation port is the airport & cruise terminal.

I'm with both Wilba and A of N on this one, if I am flying to an airport in Europe then another flight is normally available providing you use scheduled airlines. I would never take this chance when flying further afield when there may only be two flights a day and it's great to relax and throw of the jet-lag with a short stay anyway. I have two coming up one on each side of the States and enjoy the "bedding in" bit before hand. Neil.

22 sleeps

By Stacey Williams

Sorry I am going to become ‘that’ person who feels the need to countdown to her holiday every day. In fact I take back my apology as I do love a countdown. We have just three weeks (and one night) until we head off on our amazing Caribbean cruise. The weather has been very cold in Scotland the past few days so we are well in need of some sunshine!!! Over the past week we have been going through our check list of things to do and we are done I think…Cruise Personaliser &#...

Confessions of a cruise ship worker!

By Molly McIntyre

Molly McIntyre's blog

Ever wondered what really happens on a cruise ship behind closed doors? Well here it is exactly seen through the eyes of someone who used to work on a cruise ship me!Nearly 27 years ago I flew to Vancouver to join the original Love Boat, Pacific Princess, in Alaska as a Junior Bar Stewardess. I had worked in hotels for a few years so was not worried about the hard work but nothing could prepare me for what I was about to experience.Even now I remember my first day, arriving at the pier side,...

Hurricane Season is Here

Hurricane season has definitely landed with an almighty bump this year, first hurricane Irma wiped its way across the Caribbean and if that wasn’t devastating enough Hurricane Maria is also currently spreading her unwanted’ness around the beautiful islands too.Maria hit the small island of Dominica earlier this week causing devastation, I visited this beautiful Island earlier this year as can truly see how awful this must be for the locals, Dominica is such a lush island but the h...
