Hi, we are going on diamond princess and we know that ice cream is an added extra also some restaurants you pay for, casino, the tips, unless you request that they are not added to your on board card and pay what you like at the end to each person that has looked after you. you must tell the purser when you go on board . we always choose to do it that way. hope thats is of some help.

If you want free ice cream go to the 24 hour buffet at about 3:30ish when they serving afternoon tea. We were on Sea Princess and they also had little free tubs of ice cream. No restrictions on how many times you could go back! It's the fancy ice cream (sundaes etc) that you have to pay for.

Thanks for the info. we'll probably do it your way, it's difficult really, even if we pay the daily gratuity we'll feel a little obliged to reward the people who have looked after you personally.

Reward those that give you consistently good service. It is up to the cruise lines to pay/reward their workers who you do not come into contact with. This additional service charge is akin to a Tax. They already put 15% on every drinks bill that you cannot get removed. Cruise lines are using this as a cynical extra revenue stream. There are still cruise lines that state tips/service charge included. These service charges can add a significant amount to the price of your holiday - work it out !!

Shore excursions, casino contributions, booze, spa treatments, bingo sessions, art auctions, and gratuities if you have not prepaid.
