Ida and Neil Down - Answered a Question by Jenkins (24 Jun 08 20:51)

There is a tremendous economy drive going on at present on all Cruise Lines. Silver Service is one of the casualties of this drive and many companies are adopting plated service. With this in mind it is not always detrimental because done correctly with good presentation it can speed up the service and give hotter and tastier food but that probably isn't the point you're trying to make. If you were in charge of P & O would you advertise the fact that you were going to serve food in a different way, I doubt it? I know I haven't dealt with your point properly but I have a feeling that the question was probably rhetorical. Regards ... Neil.

Thank you for your comments.Would you consider it rude of me to ask whether you are in the cruising business or are these just observations you have made as a passenger on various cruises. Thank you in advance for your kind response. Ray Jenkins.

Hi Ray. No I'm not in the cruising or for that matter any business now. Ida and I have been cruising for a large number of years doing about 3/4 cruises a year and just talk to passengers and staff and those in the business a lot. (Probably too much) We just enjoy cruising and people... Regards Neil.

I was interested enough in your question to grab the P & O cruises 2009 brochure. This covers ALL their ships. On page 232 under the heading 'Club Dining' there is the following statement: "Whether you opt for Freedom or Club Dining you will enjoy Silver Service in the main restaurants." Strangly there is no mention of the type of service for Select Dining i.e the ones you pay extra for !! They must have changed somthing or this is a misprint as I remember that they changed over to 'plated' over three years ago on maany of the ships. I missed it a lot as I love vegetables and the plated meals are usually slim on veg !

The world busiest cruise ports.

By Brad Smith

Brad Smith's blog

With 2016 coming to a close, and no doubt another recording breaking cruise year I though I would do a bit of research into the world busiest cruise ports and get some insight into just how many passengers these hubs handle. To be honest the numbers are massive!!I don’t think the number 1 spot will shock many, but the Port of Miami welcomed over 5 million cruise passengers. As a major gateway to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with countless ship based there year round. Transport links w...

No I don’t mean Cuban Revolution………Cuba – One of the most enigmatic places on the planet, is suddenly becoming a rather popular tourist hot-spot, but more importantly a winning cruise destination, a revelation, one might say……..Since the recent talks of a reconciliation between Cuba and the USA, the country has now become a new attraction for many a nationality.Of course here in the UK we have been holidaying in Cuba for years, and although it’s...
