Of course he can. Many others will be the same and just as many again wont even go that far. These formal evenings are not managed to that extent unless your on more traditional cruise lines.

When we spent a week in the Caribbean on the Celebration the overall dress code was simply smart casual. Only on the captains night did everyone dress up but even then, some men wore full tux (black or white) and others smart dark suit. Most evenings those eating in the main waiter service restaurant wore smart casual with a few of the ladies wearing cocktail dresses. The lido restaurant is casual. Overall the whole feel of the ship is relaxing and low key - very enjoyable.
