Q: We are doing the Dubai and Emirates cruise with Costa at Easter. The brochures say that we will need local currency but experience has told us that often this is not the case. Are US dollars or Euro's accepted? 5 answers

We have just returned from this cruise, Euros are the best on board and all the Emirates are different currency but also take euros or dollars.

we were advised that us dollars/euros would be ok - taxi accepted us dollars but change given in dirham and thereafter, we did find that we needed local currency as well - ie for shops etc so i just withdrew some from a cashpoint

We done this trip over xmas and had no problem using euro's, dollar's or even stirling - they seemed happy to accept whatever currency we offered them. Not too sure on conversions rates though so I couldn't tell you what worked out the cheapest... Hope you have a great cruise... I'm sure you'll like the Luminosa,, she really is a lovely ship.

Hi there. We are thinking of doing this cruise. Did you go ashore under your own steam or is it necessary to go on organised trips. Many thanks.

Hi there... We didn't do any organised trips through Costa (all quite expensive) so decided to do our own thing... Each day you are given 2 options - a free shuttle bus to the edge of port (literally just outside the gates as you are not allowed to walk freely in the ports), or the other was pay 6 euro to get a shuttle bus to nearest shopping mall... Most days we took the shuttle bus to the Mall but there are Taxi's outside the ports if you want to do something different - be wary though - there was often an argument taking place outside the ports with the taxi drivers as a lot of people (including us) felt like the taxi drivers were trying thier luck with the prices - Make sure you haggle - dont accept first price. I hope this helps, and if you do book, I hope you have a great time.
