Just out of interest as someone was saying on the forum that they were not honouring the price drop in the UK (obviously had been talking to the wrong person in customer services) but the new rules brought into effect 1st June stated that only one change was to be made without charge. Thereafter any further changes including price drops would incur a £35 pp admin fee. Did this affect you - have they charged you for drops 2 and 3?

No admin charges at all. We paid £100pp deposit b to b 12th 19th April (RCI had a deal on at the time on deposits) If the price drops more than £200 I'm on to it. Thinking about upgrading flight to Dubai with mony saved.

As yet I have not had any success with the said price promise reduction, all I ever get is "very sorry Mr Xxxxxx but your already below the recommend price" How do I find out what the recommend price is? From the web-site?

Go to the website, go through the routine of selecting a cruise/room etc and see what price comes up. If it is less than you paid, for the identical category of room you should be able to claim the refund without any problem. If it is before final payment they should refund cash- if after final payment it will be in the form of on board credit. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the booking page - make sure there is no disclaimer that says * for new reservations only. The first refund is free, any after that they will charge you a 35 pound administrative fee. Good luck.

You need to visit the Royal Caribbean Web site frequently (Not your T/Agent) and check their online prices. You will need to go into the system as if you are going to make a reservation (you can exit at any time without saving) to see the prices for each grade of cabin. Keep going through the steps until you get to a breakdown of port charges etc and make a note of the figures. What you do need to know is the base price (before discount and without port tax) of the price you have agreed with your T/A. Some travel agents will actually give you a copy of the RCI Invoice so you can see the full breakdown. It can get complicated because the RCI Price say for example an L grade is £450 plus £16 per person tax - I'm using made up figures. Your travel agent will base their discount on a non discountable portion which depending on length of cruise can be say for example £60 or £100. SO I hope you are keeping up with this. The price on RCI Web site is £466 (without grats) but including port charges. Your T/A will have given you discount on 450 less the non discountable bit say £60 then added the £60 back on together with the port charges which are also non discountable. Its the Base price of £450 you need to monitor which is totally irrelavant to the net price you are paying to your T/agent as you need to know the gross base price. If this goes down for the same grade of cabin or if you see a higher grade of cabin at a lower price then you need to claim the price drop or upgrade. I am sorry this is so long winded. Its not quite so straight forward and I cant put paragraphs in this box!
Question by Dave, Nantwich (23 Nov 09 20:46) about a COMMENT by Bradbury (23 Nov 09 19:23)
Right here we go, I am presently looking at a mini cruise for back end next year. The one I am interested in is as follows RCI Adventure of Seas 8th November out of Malaga. The RCI web site offers Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony, Deck 7, Grade E2, Cabin 7586, for £421 when I progress through the booking the next stage comes up as Cabin £398 Cabin £398, Pre Paid Grats £65.20, Taxes & Fees £46 what I do find confusing is the total they are after is £807.20 whereas 398+398+65+46 = £907 Have I picked a bad example? Where would the price promise be on this one? Are they not charging me for Grats & Taxes? Many thanks Dave

I dont know whats going on there. Maybe a early booking discount has been applied? Anyway going on this example its the £398 you need to compare with your TA GROSS price before port charges and discount. So its £398 plus 23 pp port charges ie £421. Lets say you are paying your T/Agent £382 because they have given you discount. (EG £398 less £60 non comissionable) discount around £40 add back on the port charges) This is why you need to know the top figure and Monitor the £398.00. BTW I am not saying that the non comissionable portion is actually £60 and the discount is £40 Just example. This is why its important to get the full breakdown of cost from your T/A.

I like the bit "So I hope you are keeping up with this" I remember when I used to have the twin ruler over the knuckles or when the board duster would come flying at my head. So I do try my best honestly.... I think firstly I need to send those Eskimo people who do most of my bookings an email asking if they honour the "price promise reduction" and then go from there. Also many many thanks for the info the funny bits as well, I will try and get into this. Regards Dave
