At time we last traveled my children were 4 & 13, we went on board p&o oceana,i was the same at first dident no what to expect anyhow it was fantastic the youth crew were brilliant you can enjoy your holiday as much as your children .your children can join in as much as they want or if there not sure just have a few hour away. mine loved every minute of the holiday i hardly saw my teenager and my 4 year old loved joining in , the youth crew keep them safe& well supervised at all times and are very helpful if you wish to go to dinner without your kids you can let them have childrens tea early then drop them off and the eveings yours, we loved it so much were off again in sept we would now never holiday any other way ,we feel all the family had a brilliant time hope this helps.
